#ElizabethWarren has a job working for the people by writing, debating, & voting on legislation, among other things. She's made a lot of noise about #StudentDebtRelief and the #studentdebtcrisis & I want to ensure she understands how she can help the people by doing her job. Please sign the #petition and pass it along.

By proposing legislation aimed at canceling student debt burdens nationwide, Senator Warren can help alleviate financial hardships faced by millions of Americans. This action would not only provide immediate relief to struggling students and graduates but also contribute to a more equitable society and foster economic growth for all.

Here is the situation with Liz Warren. She spent months tweeting on a near-daily basis about how Biden could cancel all student debt with the stroke of a pen. The problem is, the body of law governing student loans says nothing of the sort, and in fact it is close to explicit that he can't.
Here is the body of law in question:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/20/chapter-28/subchapter-IV/part-B
Now, you won't find anywhere in there that says the President or the Secretary of Education can cancel all debts. You will find that it mentions specific criteria under which debts can be canceled, though, which is just short of explicit that debts that DON'T meet those criteria cannot be canceled.
Now, Warren loves to quote the tail end of a sentence in 1082, that sounds like Biden can cancel any debts he wants. But we should look at the start of the sentence, which reads:
"In the performance of, and with respect to, the functions, powers, and duties, vested in him by this part, the Secretary may -"
In other words, Biden can cancel any debts that the law says are eligible for cancellation. That's kind of an important limitation, and one that Warren never felt like sharing. And Warren's no dummy; she knows the old lawyer trick of "reading the whole sentence to understand its complete meaning". She knows perfectly well that the law doesn't support this "stroke of a pen" notion, and it's not at all helpful. She chose to lie to her base rather than help them; now let that sink in.
As for the student debt that the Supreme Court shot down, it was not based on 20 US Code, but on the HEROES Act of 2003, a law passed by Congress to allow debt cancellation in times of national crisis. Now I disagree with the Supreme Court's ruling; HOWEVER, we should pay attention to how the HEROES Act assumed that the president couldn't just cancel all debt, nor did Sotomayor or Kagan or Brown-Jackson argue that 20 US Code already grants Biden that power.
I really need to stress that Liz was demonstrating the legal prowess and understanding of a sovereign citizen. Either she's stupid or she's dishonest, and seeing as she taught law at Harvard, she's not stupid. Well, the SCOTUS ruling was explicit that cancellation needs to come from Congress, in the form of a bill. And that gets us back to the petition in question: if Warren wants to actually help people dealing with student debt, she really ought to write a bill like we've been saying she should for months. So, where's the bill? It wouldn't have to be a long one; the meat of it would be like one sentence.
Is it too much to ask Liz to do her damn job? And if she won't, should anyone defend her?

Liz Warren has been lying for too long about the presidential powers to cancel student debt. However, congress could pass laws to cancel debt, and all kinds of other powerful things. Let's all remind Liz that she has a job, & that job gives her the power, & also the responsibility, to do something useful about student debts.
So let's all say, c'mon, Liz, you can do more than stir up hate!

Hi, I'm #ElizabethWarren and I'm a fraud.
I promised to go after #BigTech last year, but now that my tribe is in #power thanks to #favoritism from #Fakebook, #Birdsite, and #YouScrewed, I'd like to repeat false #rhetoric about #bitcoin, the only thing short of a functional #democracy that gives #powerToThePeople.
I zuck (-I mean, suck)
