Nobody can tell Liverpool fans what to feel. Some will applaud when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s name is read out at Anfield tonight because of what he achieved with the club. Many will probably boo because of the way he left the club.

Those of us who aren’t Liverpool fans but respect the club, and how they develop talents like Alexander-Arnold, will probably just feel sad to see images of his mural defaced, and his legacy denigrated given the 86 assists, 23 goals, 354 games and the eight trophies he contributed to. Never forgetting that quick thinking and quick corner to Divock Origi that helped Liverpool into the 2019 Champions League final, that gave Anfield one of its greatest nights (and it’s had a few).

Even if Alexander-Arnold gets a hot reception from many fans, he’ll get a warm reception from Arne Slot, his former team-mates and staff behind the scenes. Because of his ability as a player and likeability as a person, and because he has a conscience reflected in community work (pictured in 2018 and more recently with The After Academy). Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t be walking completely alone at his old Anfield home tonight. #LFC #LIVRMA
