  4. Managing Risk in a Zero Trust Body

Living with type 1 diabetes isn’t about control. It’s risk management—every meal, every dose, every choice. Here’s how I came to see my body like an unpredictable system: layered defences, imperfect data, and the need for resilience over perfection.

  5. It is the end…

I mean, the end of my sugar-free chocolate stack. And I think it's still too hot to order more.

  6. Usually I'm the only person in my home who drinks kefir. So I split a liter-sized bottle of kefir into 10 equal parts. Thanks to that, I don't have to recompute insulin every time, and these portions fit my meals well.

Of course, sometimes somebody else decides to take a random part of my kefir, and break my system. Eventually, I end up with partial portion at the bottom of the bottle, and need to combine it with a new bottle. And then I try to minimally adjust the parts to even it out again.

Sometimes I even manage to do that before they break it again.

  7. CW: Private, moaning about family gatherings

So I've been invited to another family "gathering" — of course, Saturday, 4 PM. They're hoping I'll stay longer this time. There is supposed to be BBQ later.

Of course, I'm completely unfit for this, because:

    • I'm used to getting up at 3 – 5 AM, and going to bed before 10 PM
    • on Sundays, I get up at 4 AM
    • the Saturday train timestable is truly shitty, and getting home is going to take 90 minutes (not counting getting to the station), of which 40 minutes alone waiting for the train change
    • of course, the trains are ideally set apart every 2 hours, so that there's no perfect fit — either very early, or very late
    • I normally don't eat heavy meals past 3 PM
    • and even if I ignored that, my last meal is a few minutes past 6 PM — so I'll probably miss the BBQ anyway
    • on top of that, I'm going to feel guilty about leaving cats alone that long

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't invite people to my birthday, at 5 AM, to make a point.

  8. There are the days when someone disturbs and distracts you while you're heating up the dinner.

Then you start eating and suddenly discover that the potatoes are cold. Except you already took the insulin, so… bon appétit! (surprisingly, they don't taste bad)

Good that I'm boiling them the day before, or one day I might end up eating them raw…
