Am I wrong, or was Knoppix 9.1 DVD the *last* LiveCD Linux distro that came with Wine preinstalled?

Such a gem, boot and go, with a ton of apps ready out of the box. Then from v9.2 on, it became exclusive to a German IT magazine... and, apparently, the German language too.

Curiously, even though it’s all *open source*, good luck actually finding it.
What are those Germans hiding, source code or secret sausages? 😅🥨

📢 BashCore T & TX – stable rebuild coming soon

BashCore T (CLI) and TX (XFCE) already exist and are fully functional, built on Debian Trixie with kernel 6.12.

As soon as Debian Trixie becomes stable on August 9, we’ll rebuild and release final stable versions of both editions, using only officially stable packages.

Until then, current builds are considered pre-release.

Hoy algunas de las computadoras de la universidad (que todas usan Windows) estaban totalmente rotas, con BSoD o que directamente no booteaban. A pesar de eso pudimos trabajar, gracias a que la mayoría de distribuciones GNU/Linux se pueden utilizar mediante Live CD, y entonces no violamos las políticas de la universidad puesto que no modificamos las computadoras, pero tampoco nos quedamos sin posibilidad de trabajar, además de que estos Live CD ya tienen #Firefox y #LibreOffice preinstalados, por lo que no hubo necesidad de descargar nada más.

Je veux installer une #Kubuntu fraîche sur un ordi qui n'a pas été mis à jour depuis la version 18.04 (oui, ça fait longtemps).
Cet ordi, un #Asus N752vx-gc195T, tourne actuellement avec un dual-boot Kubuntu-Windows.

J'ai fait un #liveCD et une #liveUSB pour mon #install mais les deux, après un passage par l'écran #Grub, ne me proposent qu'un écran noir.

J'ai modifié tous les paramètres de la clé et du bios (MBR, EFI etc.). Désactivé le secure boot. Ajouté les paramètres nomodeset, acpi=off lors du lancement de Grub. Essayé la version 22.04
Rien.
La seule chose que j'aie, c'est un écran un peu plus verbeux lorsque je remplace "quiet" par "verbose", mais qui plante en quelques poignées de secondes et me laisse comme sur la photo ci-dessous.

Je ne sais plus quoi faire. #help

If a Linux Distro's official ISO is built using an older version of SysLinux which has since been depreciated, and no newer ISO exists, is there a way to manually rebuild the ISO to use an up-to-date SysLinux instead?

Как я пришёл к пониманию основ создания Live-дистрибутивов Linux, решив починить свой старый SSD

Был у меня старенький SSD объёмом 240 Гбайт от Kingston, который внезапно перестал работать, вообще перестал распознаваться в системе. Попробовал я подключить SSD к другому компьютеру, попробовал использовать как внешний диск, ничего не дало результата. Поэтому я купил новый, а этот разобрал. Внешних признаков, указывающих на то, что SSD сгорел, я не заметил, а интуиция говорила: «Проблема программная». Выбрасывать диск не хотелось, поэтому он остался пылиться до «лучших» времён. И вот недавно захотелось попробовать его починить. К своему удивлению, я достаточно быстро нашёл необходимую статью на Хабре , где рассказывалось, как можно оживить SSD на том же контроллере, что и мой, отдельную тему на форуме Ru-Board , а также статью с подробной инструкцией , по ней я и восстановил свой SSD. Но кроме восстановленного SSD я еще приобрёл и закрепил знания по Linux, которые изложил в этой статье. Всем, кому интересно, добро пожаловать под кат.

Setting up #Debian on a notebook computer (Surface Pro 3) is still not a straight-forward task. 😔

You still need an expert to set it up or you need to choose a more user-friendly distribution like #Xubuntu and accept the #Ubuntu downsides.

Now here's something really special - I don't come across things so refreshingly kewl this often. I follow and test with AlienBob's Ktown endowed LiveSlack CDs but I've been running my own installed from scratch Slackware -current workstations (or moving them to new machines) that I've continued maintain w/bleeding edge software for many years.

This is more like the latter (My warm and fuzzy, just how I like it, personal OS install) than the former (LiveSlack CD) - You're getting the benefit of seeing how someone else sets up their machine to incorporate their daily business flow, with all the kewl tweaks and progs right there for you to moll over. You can run it as/is or take it as a starting point to diverge from, incorporating your own style and improvements for years to come.

You prolly wanna bookmark this for sure and I know that I'mma spin this up myself this week!

A couple of things that I feel are pertinent to mention:

- You start off with a running system, like any #LiveCD, but already tweaked with plenty of customization and integrations to make this a plug and play daily driver right out of the gate.
- It's a great way to skip over the parts that led you to believe it was too much work to justify getting started with #Gentoo.
