  1. Got my bulk cable, not only can I now make XLR/TRS/TS patch cables in whatever length I want for me, but I can sell the extras on ebay or wherever! If any fedi people need audio cables, hit me up and I'll get you some at *way* cheaper than you can buy new name-brand ones using either fancy Star Quad or slightly less fancy ProCo cables and Neutrik XX series connectors! Basically fancy Mogami cables except they'll be like $20-30 instead of $90.

  2. Ooh, just had an idea! Instead of wasting money on new audio equipment that I otherwise could have gotten used, I can get a spool of bulk Canare Star Quad cable and a bunch of Neutrik XLR and TRS connectors and just make my own patch cables which will be a ton cheaper than buying them and be much nicer than the cheap Hosa's or whatever that I would have bought. I probably won't need *that* many, but maybe I can make a few extra and sell some on ebay or wherever too.

Somebody tell me why this is a bad idea?

  3. Looking to put together a kit so I can start doing live-sound for a local dance (normally two or three musicians and one vocalist, occasional larger bands that it would be good to be equipped to do, but isn't strictly necessary up front), they pay $100 for each 2 hour session so I can do partial grocery money if I start doing it once a month or so after I pay off equipment investment.

Who has recommendations for off-brand DI boxes or inline pre's that are actually good (personal experience only please, I've already looked to see what the rest of the internet says)? The obvious choices are the Radial Engineering ProDI or the FetHead/Cloudlifter/McBoost but those are way outside my price range new or used, so I'm hoping I can find something that's 90% as good for half the price (or a really good deal used maybe?). I'll be trying to find used stuff, but I'm using new pricing to compare.

Alternative suggestions for other gear welcome too: bhphotovideo.com/find/wishlist

The clock on the mixer hasn’t been adjusted for DST.

  8. Ah crap. I was just introduced to a new software protocol that would allow me to solve a lot of problems in the theatre.

  9. It never ceases to amaze me that musicians show up to a gig and have no idea what connection their instrument takes to plug in to the PA.

  10. In other news: I just had two great shows doing live sound for my friends #KoraWinter! And let me tell you, it's so nice when everything just works and everyone's having a great time.

Always nice to work on a mixing desk and not a tablet, which is a nightmare. And don't get me started on mixing with a smartphone 🤮

Anyway, check them out if you're curious and happen to like #metal

  11. Having wrapped off 'Ride the Cyclone', I'm now digging into sound setup for 'Cabaret' even though it doesn't start rehearsals until August, because I'm obsessive like that.

Now to figure out whether and how to mic up a nine-piece orchestra in a weirdly-shaped 300-seat space...
