The OST looks to be promising. There are reports that there’s a Liu Yuning ballad titled ‘Why?’
It’s in his lower register, unlike his more recent songs, which suggests it was recorded a couple of years ago in line with the 2023 production. If you like Liu Yuning singing with his chest voice, you’ll want to look for this one when it makes it to music streamers.

Am watching episode 15 of “The Prisoner of Beauty” with Liu Yuning and Song Zu’er 🌸 This is a very slow burn drama but the embers are there. After some family drama they are sitting quietly, looking at a map for the new canal. It isn’t quite flirting; it’s more the comfort of each other’s presence with the the seeds of love beginning to flourish.

Am watching episode 2 of “The Prisoner of Beauty” with Liu Yuning and Song Zuer 🌸 Their chemistry is hostile but electric. He just got played by her, not realizing that she is handing him the people’s respect.
This is going to be fabulous! Hope antifans can stop hating LYN. He is well cast and it is refreshing to see someone look normal. Toxic beauty standards are so harmful.

It is, however, a tough watch and my viewing experience was lessened by watching it on YouTube. I’m glad it was there, because I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to access it but some of the soundtrack was distorted for copyright reasons. Music is an important part of a drama and it was a little weird to have it distorted beyond recognition or removed entirely.

Just finished watching “A Journey to Love” 🌸 It is a beautiful drama full of humour, complicated but devoted love in many different variations. The main couple is not young and so they are ready to compromise. Their relationship is also strengthened by their fellowship with other characters. This is about more than romantic love; it is just as much about friendship and chosen family.

Am watching episode 34 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 This scene is full of sugar, because it is so unexpected, both for Ning Yuanzhou + Ren Ruyi and the audience. The drama, however, doesn’t seem to be heading towards a sugary ending, though.

Watching episode 33 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 The drama is beginning to wrap up the main plot. This farewell scene is touching because friendship is shown to be valuable even though Ning Yuanzhou chooses love over friendship. Everyone knows that this is probably a permanent farewell but they let him go.

Am watching episode 24 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 Ren Ruyi is caught in an ambush but she and Ning Yuanzhou seem to have predicted it so he casually wanders on the scene mid-ambush and helps her out. Again he isn’t saving a damsel in distress but helping out the woman he loves ❤️

Just watching episode 23 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 This scene is beautiful, because they are walking silently but their silence is full of understanding. They don’t have to speak to support each other.

Just watching episode 15 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 It is a magnificent scene where Ning Yuanzhou charges in to help Ren Ruyi fight off a group of people who are attacking her. He is not saving a damsel in distress but helping the love of his life by levelling the playing field. It is definitely a hero’s entrance, though.

Have just begun watching “A Journey to Love” 🌸 It’s from 2023 but I couldn’t access it when it was broadcast. Now I found it on YouTube and am enjoying it immensely. It took a few episodes to establish itself and now it is beginning to take off. Many charismatic actors and quite a lot of humor lurking beneath a fairly sad premise.

Am watching episode 13 of “The Story of Pearl Girl” 🌸 This scene was gripping. Yan Zijing is devastated by some news and goes on the attack. Three of his male friends try to prevent him from killing someone in desparation and rage. It is, however, the tiny Duanwu who stops him by standing in front of him and giving him a hug.
A small woman keeps a tall man from doing something he will regret. Very powerful scene.

Am watching episode 3 of “The Story of Pearl Girl” 🌸 Both leads are revealed to have tragedies in their past already at this early point in the drama. It is clear that their past will inform who they will be in the future and perhaps their shared experiences will resonate in their future relationship?

Have just watched episode 1 of “The Story of Pearl Girl” 🌸 Didn’t realize that the premise was quite so dark. The pearl divers are slaves and treated with contempt. Liu Yuning’s character is morally ambiguous at this point and Tang Xiaotian’s character is his foil, who is visibly drawn towards Zhao Lusi.
The chemistry between all three leads is already on display. This drama promises to be complex and rewarding.

I just published my review of "The Long Ballad" starring #dilraba and #wulei (and #zhaolusi and #liuyuning and #fangyilum). What a ride that was!
As #cdramas go I'd rate this show one of the best of 2021. I kind of wish I had watched it sooner, but there are so many great Cdramas out there I simply can't get to them all fast enough.
