A bit of Whit
I don’t think I’ve ever used the word whit in conversation in my life. But! The answer doesn’t end there because I used to like the actor Whit Bissell when I was a kid (still do, actually) because I liked his name. It was a fun name to say and easy to remember, which is probably important when your full name is Whitner Nutting Bissell. And something else that’s kind of fun is that the word bisel is the Yiddish word for little, so a little bit of Whit would be a bisel of Bissell.
Whit was the army general on the Time Tunnel TV show in 1966 and he was in 100’s of other things as well. You might not recognize his name, but if you’ve watched any TV shows or seen any movies made before 1985 you’ve seen Whit Bissell. You may not have known it, but he was there. The quintessential character actor.
