Look what arrived in the post: New Directions in Digital Textual Studies, expertly and diligently edited by Christopher Ohge and Kristen Schuster. My chapter on "Unlocking Literary Heritage: From Cabinets of Curiosity to Digital Storytelling" is surrounded by the work of a bunch of really terrific scholars. @peterwebster Peter Webster, Mary Erica Zimmer, Leah Henrickson and Dirk Van Hulle, to name just a few.

Not seen much media coverage of this major acquisition of John Galsworthy's archive and a sizeable and important collection of letters from Elizabeth Barrett Browning to her sister. Maybe l missed it.

This afternoon I finished writing an entry on W. B. Yeats's The Tower for The Literary Encyclopedia. I may have accidentally invented the term material sublime to capture Thoor Ballylee's 'monumental' presence in the poetry.

I've been pondering the Orwell/Gollancz archive dispersal. Gekoski tried to sell the lot for £1M to various institutions. Not necessarily an excessive price, but few institutions collect publishers' archives or can (esp. in UK) presumably afford it.

Lack of care and understanding of literary archives and its enormous value for heritage is leading to the dispersal and possible destruction of Orwell papers from his publisher Gollancz.

Happy Bloomsday, to those that celebrate.
@chrissie and I like to 'visualize' the characters from Finnegans Wake. Here is the man himself looking particularly like 'Jaunty Jaun' with his curly hair. This photo by Berenice Abbot first appeared in transition 13 accompanying the latest installment from Work in Progress, one of the Shaun chapters from Book III in Finnegans Wake.

Interesting new book by Beth Luey, A House of Her Own: Women Writers of New England and Their Home.
It focuses on women writers such as Anne Bradsheet, how they negotiated with publishers to increase their income, and the houses they bought with it.
It's lavishly illustrated, I am informed.
