Well fuck. Was gonna try upgrading Pipewire on my Linux Mint install to start poking around with Spout2pw... and I just found out the spout2pw dev isn't working on the project at all anymore. Awesome. I don't wanna rely on abandoned tools for my stream setup!

There are ways to pirate windows. If you do go with windows, I’d say look up an activation script, get windows 11 pro for free, and use AtlasOS. That’s a user script that strips out all of Microsoft’s bullshit, including copilot and recall.

However, if you don’t want to play any games whose anticheat gets mad at Linux, I’d say kick Microsoft for good. To check compatibility of your games, have a look at ProtonDB. It’ll tell you whether your choice games will run on Linux, and whether any tweaking is required to do so. I’ve been having a lot of fun daily driving EndeavourOS on my gaming PC, but I wouldn’t recommend it for someone’s first Linux distro. It’s arch-based, so it can be challenging. Fedora is a good starter distro, but you’ll want to disable SElinux. Can’t say anything for or against Pop OS, never tried it.

I am thinking about replacing my aging Synology NAS. I feel like going the self-built route, maybe based on a N150 or N355 board. I want to have some SSD storage and maybe some additional spinning rust. The machine should also replace various smaller (RPi based) servers using docker.
