Frage an die #Linux Profis: Ich liebe es, mit der Pfeil-hoch-Taste meine letzten Terminal-Befehle durchzugehen. Aber manchmal liegt der Gewünschte lange zurück. Kann ich so eine Historie auch nur für ein Programm durchklicken, also zum Beispiel die letzten Befehle mit ffmpeg?

Okay dumb Linux question. I did try to get hibernate working on my Linux notebook.

Therefor I added a resume statement to the LINUX_DEFAULT config for GRUB. Also I added the resume statement to the Kernel parameters and recreated both configs.

In theory the hibernate works but after the machine fully shuts down it starts again, restoring the state.

Any idea what could the issue? I did test it with `systemctl hibernate`

So, a few weeks into using my newly #Ubuntu powered mid-2011 #Mac and I'm still very much enjoying it. Knew that the RAM on the machine was a bit wanting (even still, the OS runs fast). So I opened up another same model Mac I have to repurpose some RAM. Discovered that I've been running the Ubuntu machine on only 4gb and the other Mac on 16. So now the Ubuntu machine has 12gb and continues to feel like I've purchased a brand new computer.

Now we get to see which works best for my church needs with dueling old iMacs, one running MacOs and the other Ubuntu. I’m going to try living with both for awhile and, honestly, likely migrate over to the Ubuntu machine.

After four and a half hours and various roadblocks (including learning how to use the Terminal in ways I’d never before), I finally got a bootable USB drive for Ubuntu to work on this old-ass Mac and [insert gif of Orson Krennic saying “oh, it’s beautiful!”]

I FINALLY INSTALLED LINUX LAST NIGHT!!! I chose #LinuxMint!

I am dual booting with Windows 10 and so far I haven't had any issues. It even detected my printers without me even asking it to! I am so happy I finally bit the Linux bullet! Any advice is appreciated!

When I was 16, I tried Ubuntu for fun and it was neat, but I didn't really get it. For some reason I really want to try Linux again. This next month (or more) I am going to give it ago. Does anyone have any tips or resources? I am going with Linux Mint.

Extracting Rar files on Linux hadn't been successful. I been trting to extract one of the mods that adds 3D Eyelashes for The Sims 2.

I tried both Xarchiver and Ark with no luck. At best, it can extract some .package file or image files but not all of them.

Ich möchte u.U. doch mal die Windows-Faulheit (das meiste von AFu und QRL läuft halt darauf...) überwinden und mich wieder mehr mit Linux auseinandersetzen. Was schaut man sich denn aktuell für Distros an? Hab vor einiger Zeit mal bisschen mit Debian gemacht. #linuxnoob

Is there a hashtag for people interested in moving to #Linux or people who have moved recently that have questions that I could follow to try and help people out? If not, we should settle on one and try and make it known. The more people we can help to get away from the likes of Microsoft the better. #LinuxNoob maybe? Looks like there may be some posts with that hashtag already.

Is there any benefit from dual-booting both Windows and Linux? I heard Windows updates often break the bootloader and is it true and also how easy is it to fix it?

I don’t think I like Gnome. Is it tweak-able? As a lifelong windows user that moved to macOS in the 2000s but was weaned on Amiga Workbench, I like to be able to switch apps easily. I like a dock or a task bar. Are there any good resources on the available desktop environments?
The same release on raspberry pi at least has a task bar.

Why can't I run any AppImage package on any distro, ever? And yes I DO have "Executable as program" enabled. Ubuntu, Fedora, nothing. No error message too.

EDIT: disregard, I'm an idiot. I'm running Fedora virtualized in UTM on an ARM M1 Mac, these were x64 execs.

So I'm attempting to create my own #Mastodon server using a home Odroid M1 and #kubuntu #LinuxHelp #LinuxNoob

I'm getting a "power-controller failed to get ack on domain gpu." error on booting which just hangs there and doesn't progress.

And I was just about finished setting up the server... (trying to figure out why NGINX won't serve the sites-enabled...)

Does this mean I need to start again....

Linux people:

I may take a crack at installing Linux. It’d be the second attempt, the first one a failure years ago trying to install Mint from a CD.

I have an aging Windows laptop with everything on the C: drive. Can I install Linux (presumably Ubuntu or Mint) on the totally empty D: drive? And if so, what then happens when I start the computer up? Do I get an option for which OS to boot up? Can Windows and Linux run at the same time and be toggled between? And if so, how?

Warum kann ich mir denn unter #linuxmint (Ubuntu Basis) einen custom shortcut anlegen a la:
xed ~/meinedatei
Und das Tastenkürzel startet xed und lädt meine Datei

Versuche ich nun das gleiche mit:
nano ~/meinedatei
Dann passiert einfach gar nichts. Hüüülfe! 😇
