  1. #pine64 support seem to be trolling me. I reported that wifi chip stopped working within ~15 minutes, and their response so far has been:

    1. Gaslight me and try to convince me there is no problem
    2. Try to convince me my phone wasn't charged enough for wifi+bt chip to work.
    3. Try to convince me that even though battery is charged, it doesn't have "enough voltage" just for this one chip while everything else works

It is almost as if they just want me to go away and stop complaining.

  3. I posted this on Lemmy, but think it's worth reposting here. With the news that Google is locking down Android more, and making it more difficult to install apps of ones own choosing, there is likely going to be more interest in alternatives to Google branded Android.

The best general resource for instructions on how to unlock your phone's bootloader and flash alternate AOSP ROM's or non-Android OS's is https://xdaforums.com/

Please note that not all carriers and oem's allow you to unlock the bootloader though, so choose your device carefully for this.

You will also most likely need a PC (desktop or laptop) with adb & fastboot on it. These are apps used in the terminal, but you only need to copy and paste a few commands into them to use it.

If you have a Google Pixel then best option is Graphene - https://grapheneos.org/

For other devices you can use a "degoogled" Android ROM and get apps from the open source F-Droid app store - https://f-droid.org/

    Some choices for this are:

    Lineage - https://lineageos.org/

    crDroid - https://crdroid.net/

    /e/os - https://e.foundation/e-os/

    Iode - https://iode.tech/iodeos/

OR use a a true alternative mobile OS. Options for this are:

    Ubuntu Touch - https://www.ubuntu-touch.io/

    Sailfish OS - https://sailfishos.org/

    Mobian - https://mobian-project.org/

    Postmarket OS - https://postmarketos.org/

    Plasma Mobile - https://plasma-mobile.org/

    Droidian - https://droidian.org/

You can also purchase devices with alternative OS's already preinstalled from:

    Volla - https://volla.online/en/devices/

    Jolla - https://jolla.com/

    Fairphone - https://fairphone.com/

    Murena - https://murena.com/

    Furilabs - https://furilabs.com/

  4. @portaloffreedom @EUCommission @postmarketOS solded batteries could be the first issue to extend the life of the phone, but allowing system security update is certainly a must.
#linuxphone needs support, as well as alternative androids like @iode and similar.

  5. My 2016 Samsung phone has finally got to the point where even I can't keep using it. The screen is dying and the battery doesn't seem to be able to get me through half a day. That's on top of it being slow as, with a potato for a camera.
Any thoughts on what the least annoying OEM flavour of Android is? By that I probably mean customiseable, least creepy, least AI-infested. Would love to go Linux, but I need to do $EMPLOYEE stuff like Teams on it, paywave, and $GOVMINT stuff like digital drivers licence etc., and I'm not sure if that's possible on a Linux phone.
Currently lookign at Nothing phones, probably a 4a or 3a. Would love to hear from Nothing Phone owners to see what you think.

  6. Oh. my. god. For the first time in my life I now have access to a *wide angle camera* on my phone! 😱 🥳

Today I was brave enough to finally update my phone to the latest 5 (I could absolutely not afford a bricked phone the last ~2 years), and it was the smoothest update ever, so my fears were unfounded. 🙃

However - in typical fashion - this¹ little hack for unlocking all the cameras makes the selfie camera unavailable, oh well... 🫠

Poprawa audio na FP5 będzie miała również wpływ na FP6, gdyż jak czytamy na wiki: "Fairphone 6 shares the same sound amplifier as the previous version, therefore, development might be related to Fairphone 5".

  10. @opensourceopenmind @davepolaschek @furilabs

I can't make it work with with FLX1 (not FLX1s). And I believe the issue is @FuriLabs choosing HDMI (Proprietary) over DisplayPort (Open Source). HDMI is NOT backwards compatible. FuriLabs don't provide info on the version of the HDMI port (I think it is 2.1). My monitor has two 2.0 version ports, which make it incompatible. I've tried different cables. Make sure your monitor can support this hub before purchasing.

  12. I started working on my small-net browser / client again — named: SpaceMonkey.

    I got a Linux phone a while ago — the FLX1s.

So, I made it so SpaceMonkey would work on my FLX1s Linux phone by turning it (SpaceMonkey) into a GNOME Phosh + Linux app.

  13. An update on the wallet app I am creating for GNOME Phosh on Linux.

I am continuing to add support for Taler.

Here is what it currently looks like to add a Taler exchange.

(A Taler exchange is where you would get Taler coins from.)

(Some of the stuff in the screen will change. Such as the buttons at the bottom.)

  14. For the balances, the app groups the balances by currency (because I think it makes more sense to more people that way).

If you tap on the currency balance, then it shows the breakdown per Taler exchange.

  15. I got a Linux phone a while ago — the FLX1s.

I started writing apps for it recently — which are just a GNOME + Linux apps.

I started working on a wallet app for GNOME Phosh.

I am adding support for Taler.

  16. So far I have written a (mobile optimized) file manager app.

And, written a finger painting app for kids ages 3 to 5. (I have young children.)

    ....

There are other apps I plan to write, too.

  17. I got Linux phone a while ago — the FLX1s.

I started writing apps for it.

That was actually one of the things I liked about it. Making app for it is a lot easier than Android or iOS.

Native Apps on the FLX1s are just GNOME + Linux apps.

I could also use whatever programming-language I wanted — I chose the Go programming-language (golang).

  18. All this talk of a #LinuxPhone is wonderful. But it's going to be a long time before I can buy a phone from #TMobile or #BoostMobile that has #Phosh or #KDEMobile on it, and only takes a few steps to setup. So it would be nice to go to a phone store and get a #NothingPhone or a #JollaPhone like that. But it's not happening any time soon.
