Actually, these are passive observations from https://172-234-197-23.ip.linodeusercontent.com/?page_id=14 for and up to now. I hope it has been intriguing for those at #Linode | To what degree that Traceroute 2.0 is passive maybe up for debate.

#Linode has new G8 Compute Plans
"The wait is over — our newest G8 compute plans featuring #AMD 5th Gen EPYC processors are now available across multiple regions. These plans bring faster performance, new VM shapes, and more flexibility for every type of workload." https://linode.com -
Akamai runs one of the world's largest networks for delivering web content quickly. Servers are placed everywhere so your users get content from nearby locations instead of halfway across the globe.
If you need fast global delivery plus solid VPS and object storage, they're worth looking at. We can help with highly available, low-latency and edge native #PostgreSQL deployments if you go that route. 🐘

#TFW you reboot your #Linode, and apparently something has changed on the host because the network interface name reported by the kernel is now different, so NetworkManager fails to configure the network and you have to waste a half hour logging into the console over lish and relearning how the fuck manually configured network interfaces are configured in NetworkManager so you can figure out what's wrong and fix it. *sigh*

Just shut down my last VPS at #linode
Went back in billing history, started with them at $5/mo in 2017. I was so happy for so long.
Then Akamai buys them, and moves the pricing far away from what any non-commercial entity should need to pay.
Stuck on there easily another 1-2 years extra simply because I couldn't get the time to make the move :blobcatprofit:
But now the demon is exorcised. Moved on to #hetzner since their US presence is pretty solid. Early vibes are definitely good, just need to keep them away from Akamai.

I’ve had it planned for months, finally made the migration from #linode to #hetzner
I always knew that Akamai buying linode would be hellish on pricing, but i never thought it’d be this bad.
Good riddance.
Also went from bare metal to the docker route. Led to a little (ok a lot, since I am still learning docker) more work to plan out a custom build for the customizations, but wow it is going to be SO nice to have it all scripted right in the compose.

I have an #ubuntu #UbuntuServer question.
I am running my own #nextcloud server (snap) on #Linode (ubuntu-server 20.04). When I run updates via SSH the TUI always asks which daemons I would like to restart. This baffles me so I always keep the pre-selected (with *) choices, tab over to "OK", and hit enter.
Am I doing this wrong?
