Re: Here’s a look at what Keynote looks like on Apple Vision Pro.
The thing is, this looks fine. Super cool. But I get unreasonably irritated knowing that this is what Cupertino spent the last five years making instead of fixing #Siri.

Coca-Cola boycott launched after killings at Colombian plants (2003):
"The unions claim Coca-Cola bottlers hired far-right militias of the United Self Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC) to murder nine union members at Colombian bottling plants in the past 13 years."
And Coca-Cola is one of the better liked corporations. Let’s hope they never get a cocacola.social account 😅 #LinksFromJason

Protocols, Not Platforms (2019):
"The benefits of building a service as a platform are fairly obvious: the owner has ultimate control over that platform and thus is much better positioned to monetize the platforms via advertising of some form (or other ancillary services). This does, however, incentivize these platforms to acquire an ever increasing amount of data from their users to better target them."
Hypothetically, ... #LinksFromJason https://micro.fromjason.xyz/2024/01/09/protocols-not-platforms.html

Characteristics and prevalence of fake social media profiles with AI-generated faces:
"We present a dataset of 1,353 such accounts and show that they are used to spread scams, spam, and amplify coordinated messages, among other inauthentic activities."
Ok. Hear me out. How would this work on a platform like #Mastodon where everyone uses illustrated profile pictures and obscure sites to demonstrate their digital identities? #LinksFromJason

@idoubtit my memory might be faulty but I think this post speaks to that.
If all our brains consume is rushing streams, we stop appreciating the garden.

Regarding: Elon Musk Has Used Illegal Drugs
I find it odd, borderline infuriating even, how many left-of-center folks are suddenly very concerned with drug use stigma.
When it’s a brown kid dying in jail for a weed charge, it’s “nuanced”.
When it’s about a billionaire who believes in the great replacement theory, all of a sudden it’s #ACAB and legalize it.
Bro. Please be so for real. #LinksFromJason

Meta allows Facebook and Instagram ads saying 2020 election was rigged | The Guardian Nov 2023:
"The Tech Oversight Project decried the change in a statement: “We now know that Mark Zuckerberg and Meta will lie to Congress, endanger the American people, and continually threaten the future of our democracy,” said Kyle Morse, deputy executive director. “This announcement is a horrible preview of what we can expect in ... #LinksFromJason

FYI: Will Blocking remain legal for all in the USA? Supreme Court to rule on issue. from Bob Wyman April 2023:
"If SCOTUS rules against blocking, might individuals with government roles be barred from using instances that provide instance-level blocking or either individuals or other instances?"
I don’t know enough to have an opinion. But these SCOTUS cases are an interesting insight into how the US government may legislate "blocking". #LinksFromJason

The People of Solano County Versus the Next Tech-Billionaire Dystopia:
"California Forever aligns suspiciously with a cultish dystopian movement to build so-called “network states”—private zones where tech zillionaires can abandon democratic society to live under the rule of their own private micro governments."
Remember when we collectively agreed that our worst fear was a Trump who spoke like Obama? Yeah, I think those are just #technocrats.

Let’s grow online greenspace for healthy sociality & mutual aid:
"Now that so many are forced to use online media to communicate, let’s use this opportunity to create many smaller virtual communities and social networks outside the enclosed world of Facebook."
Seems there’s a big ideological gap between Rheingold, the person who coined “social web” some thirty years ago, and those attempting to co-opt the term today. #LinksFromJason

Effective Altruism is fun because billionaires get to claim they’re charitable toward a broken system they themselves created.
And as a bonus, they throw in a little of that homegrown, Stanford-style eugenics talk. It’s a convo that always seems to creep back into liberal circles somehow. You know, the good stuff. /s

I’m telling ya, buttons are back. People want to feel something. Even if that something is tactile feedback. I don’t hate this.
From Clicks:
"Clicks brings together tactile typing with the iPhone experience. They’re the perfect pair."

EveryoneShouldBlog.txt | the library of alexandra:
"someone recently commented that their life was too boring to blog about. i vehemently disagree. you could stay at home, staring at the ceiling for 12 hours a day, and i would still wonder what you think about."

‘Fake’ Amazon workers defend company on Twitter (2021):
"Amazon has previously used this handle for its so-called Amazon Ambassadors - real employees who are paid by the firm to promote and defend it on Twitter."
Wondering why Meta’s PR/comms would coordinate a swarm of employee-led anti-Apple posts on Threads? Me too. Anyone have Bezos' phone number?
