Fire activity continues to intensify on the Mount Irish Fire, which started on June 30 at 6:42 p.m. in southern Nevada. Gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms are creating unpredictable fire behavior, challenging suppression efforts across the incident.
Periods of strong, erratic wind gusts are expected today as thunderstorms move through the area. Compared to Tuesday, showers are trending wetter with increased chances for meaningful rainfall. However, drier air is expected to return overnight, with only isolated storm activity anticipated on Thursday.
Given these conditions, the Mount Irish Fire is exhibiting extreme fire behavior, including wind-driven runs, rapid spread through vegetation, and crown fire activity, where flames jump from treetop to treetop. Significant fire growth remains possible today.
To support suppression efforts, the fire was mapped earlier today, providing an updated size estimate of 6,311 acres.

The Mount Irish Fire is now 6,311 acres. Multiple air and ground resources are on scene including several IHC and type 2 IA crews, engines, dozers, and a Nevada type 3 team has been ordered. BLM, Forest Service, State, and local cooperators are all helping, with additional support en route to help supress.The Mount Irish Fire is located roughly 30 miles east of Rachel, Nevada; 20 Miles NW of Alamo, NV in the Mount Irish Range. It is burning in steep, rugged terrain, consuming pinyon-pine, juniper, and brush.
