Today I looked at some shoes on one specific website from my phone, then #facebook started showing me #adverts for similar shoes, but all from /different/makes. Checked the site with the #Lightbeam plugin for #firefox and it doesn't doesn't show any specific connections elsewhere and the site doesn't have a cookie dialog. The mobile browser used (#Opera) has an ad-blocker which was enabled. Curious as to what caused the extra adverts...

TIL heute morgen:
#firefox und #lightbeam AddOn Update sorgt für (vermutlich ungefähr) doppelten RAM-Bedarf. Ergebnis bei $VIELEN Fenstern und $NOCHMEHR Tabs: Crash mit OOM, wohlgemerkt der Firefox, nicht der #linuxkernelAbhilfe: `firefox --safe-mode`, AddOn deaktivieren/löschen, mehr freien RAM genießen.

Thanks @plwt - I hadn't reliased tha someone (@chikl ) had been keeping #lightbeam updated last year [1] after mozilla gave up on it in 2019 [2]
It's a great graphical tool as a plugin for firefox that I always loved for showing you what the web site your visiting is accessing from third party web sites - and some are really scary ...

Die Lightbeam-Extension wurde ursprünglich von den Mozilla Labs entwickelt und wird von Princiya auf GitHub weiter gepflegt. Leider steht aus Zeitgründen seit Januar 2022 keine für den aktuenlle Firefox aktualisierte Version zur Verfügung: https://github.com/princiya/lightbeam-we/issues/7
Wir benützen #Lightbeam auf www.dateninkontinenz.ch um auf Datenabflüssen von sensiblen Websites hinzuweisen.

Oh no, the great visualization add-on #Lightbeam for #Firefox has disappeared once again. Lightbeam has always been a great tool to show how third parties track you across different visited websites and was often used in the #CryptoParty scene. I have been using this fork since Mozilla ceased development: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/lightbeam-3-0/
Does anybody know about a proper fork or other tools that help visualizing trackers while using your web browser?

@sandro That's true, the rendering needs further work. For our use case it's perfectly fine to activate #Lightbeam only when needed.

Lightbeam has always been a great tool to show how third parties track you across different visited websites and was often used in the #CryptoParty scene. Alternatives do not seem to be available.Anyone up for a fork? Mozilla even encourages one.
