So I’m looking to replace my #LifX #SmartBulbs. They’re really just not bright enough for me (being their A19/60W equivalent). I’ve been looking at #Cync and #Feit, which both have A21 (100W equiv) available. However I haven’t grabbed their apps yet. I’d like to know if anyone has recommendations for #SmartLighting that does NOT require a hub, has a decent app that lets you do things like schedule on/off/fade in or out possibly a nifty thing like schedule an effect to happen?

I recently switched from #Lifx to #PhilipsHue for smart lights. Lifx was sold twice since 2019 which doesn't bode well.
What I don't like about #hue is how unintuitive it can be. Example - I have 3 lights in 1 room. Let's say I have a scene to change all 3 lights. Then while it's running, I want to use a scene that changes 1 light. Since scenes are intuitively at the room level, it will turn off all lights. You have to create a zone for just the 1 light to leave the 2 unaffected.

In the case of #LIFX, they do one better: their bulbs have a 10 year warranty and if they go out before that, they will replace them free of charge.
I know this is true because they replaced two of mine after two years.
That concludes this episode of Random Smart Devices Convo.

I received the LIFX bulbs and they connected within seconds to HomeKit and Google Home. I'm trying to decide if I should try to sell the horrible Yeelight bulbs yet be forthright to the buyer. So I asked ChatGPT, "Write an ad for a private sale of a Yeelight smart lightbulb to make it sound worth buying even though the bulb is a terrible bulb, the worst I've used." Here's what it came up with:
-
It's been a multi-year battle with Yeelight "smart" bulbs to connect them and have them stay connected. After one bulb spontaneously disconnected and failed to reconnect after six tries, I've given up with this Chinese-made crapola. Yeelight inexplicably requires two iPhone apps and multiple tries to connect a bulb … when it works.
Since I'm not crazy about the expensive Hue bulbs either, I'm going to buy LIFX. I gave them as a gift once and the recipient loves them.

The Homebridge (https://homebridge.io) app (running on my Synology) works really well to enable me to add my old old old LIFX bulbs (pre- HomeKit support) to my Apple Home environment. Kudos to the devs at Homebridge! #AppleHome #HomeKit #LIFX #Homebridge #interoperability #freedom #foss

Actually, you know what? I'm fed up with my #LiFX bulbs. They're such a freaking hassle if things go wrong. To resynch them, you need to:
Disable mobile data on your phone
Disable 5GHz wifi on your router
Hard reset the bulb...and then hope & pray that they will be picked up by the app and connect. It's a joke.
Not recommended.

WOWOWOW
I just found a really old post on how to turn #lifx lights on and off from the commandline by sending raw bytes cached in a file (we're talking like \x2a\x00\x00\x34\ kinda thing) to it's IP adress.
I might...be able to make a commandline lifx controller. There doesn't seem to be any out there as of now. Maybe even a #C library if I want to go down the rabbithole of trying to build a library in a language I'm not very familiar with
It's wonderful that lifx opensources their protocol.

Our next Speaker Spotlight for #EverythingOpen is long time #OpenHardware and ex #LIFX luminary, Andy 'Geekscape' Gelme, who will chat to us about the confluence of #AI, #IoT and #ML - in #AIoT - covering how to create an open framework to bring them all together.

Ok! My #HomeAssistant is talking to my:
#Lifx
#Tado
#Sonoff
#Meross
#AwairAnd a few other things. Can't seem to find a custom integration for my LoRaWAN security system. There's no public API I'm aware of, but was hoping not to have to reverse engineer it.
Probably time for bed. Good thing I can now switch on my electric blanket from my phone!

I never imagined #StreamDeck would be a workaround to custom programming these #LIFX bulbs!! Add in a browser tab to a playlist and bam, instant media show.

In the latest #lifx saga update, the two new #lifxmini lights remain operational and on the the network. Perhaps the firmware update has helped. Also, randomly, I *found* another 4 lifx bulbs. 3 were in a drawer, one brand new and unopened, two others that were packed away after one of our various house moves. The other I discovered in a bedside table lamp, fitted there after being mistaken for a regular bulb.
I am sure these updates are fascinating. All spurred by the #homeassistant instance I stood up for an entirely different purpose, but which is now controlling 13 lifx bulbs and 2 #tplink switched plugs. And I’ve ordered a couple of #zigbee buttons & hub to use as physical bedside light switches.
It is nice to have all the lifx lights running again, especially the sunset and midnight triggers to bring on some ambient light, and the ‘movie night’ subdued lighting scene for, movie nights. -
In the latest fascinating update on my #lifxmini lamps, both the new lamps that were installed yesterday have now disappeared from the network (both #homeassistant & #lifx app). So that’s great.
-
The two replacement #lifx lamps are now fitted and hooked into the #homeassistant configs. So there are now 5 #lifxmini lamps in one scene, one of which will essentially factory reset if the power cuts out (non-optimal). I did purchase some neat plastic plates that go over the wall switch preventing accidental circuit switching - they are attached to the decora switch plate with magnets on the plate screws (non-affiliate link: https://a.co/d/aCrHV3D). Those work fine except evidently one of my switch plates is not flat, so that’s a future investigation.

I want to like the #lifx lamps, and I have 5 OG lamps that are fine after 5+ years, but the Lifx Mini lamps are problematic. I bought 5 about 3 years ago. Of the 5, one was DOA (Lifx replaced that one under warranty), one has since failed and will not power on, and another has evidently lost its ability to retain settings when the power at the switch is cut, or in a power cut, for example. Reprogramming them is an exercise in patience as it often takes multiple attempts to make the settings stick. I did just order 2 more Lifx Mini lamps to replace the failed ones, I do like the color control, but perhaps it is not worth the apparent fragility.
Interested in the experience of others with Lifx or alternatives. #homeautomation -
@ayeayerobot I've installed some WeMo switches and with the bulbs I have, inexpensive LED bulbs, they don't seem to drop below around 50% brightness. I've also got some #Lifx and some #Nanoleaf bulbs. Lifx are brighter with most colours but both bulbs dim way down.
