  1. There is a famous perspective shared by many strategists that a wise man would choose to attack rather than defend. The idea is simple: by taking the initiative, controlling the narrative, and staying on the offensive, you never let life push you into a corner. On one hand, being proactive means you chase your goals, take risks, and dictate your own terms instead of waiting for problems to hit you. On the other hand, true wisdom also requires patience, emotional control, and knowing when to protect your peace, your resources, and your boundaries. Can you truly win at life by always playing offense, or do you need a solid defense to sustain your victories? Do you think always being on the attack is the rightful approach to life, or is balance the ultimate strategy? Let’s hear your thoughts in the replies.

  2. You’re not faking. You’re growing.

Did you ever feel and maybe even say out loud, OFTEN possibly? Maybe you even wailed it:

“I CAN’T DO THIS!! IT’S NOT IN ME!!

    I have. Often.

But the masters offered me a gem of insight that I pocketed for perpetuity and return to frequently for sustenance. I’ve shared it before and it’s been laid on my heart to share it again. As with most wisdom gems, it’s not new and it’s not a secret.

Operate in the fake-it mode until you’re feeling it.

Because utilizing the fake-it mode isn’t about being fake. It’s about training through habituation of practice.

It was put to me this way:

You will eventually come to understand that operating in the fake-it-til-you-feel-it mode is less about faking as it is assuming an identity within yourself that while foreign to you in the beginning, is not actually “false”, but merely unexplored. How can it not be a part of you if you pulled it from somewhere within you? You’re merely tapping a resource within that you had not yet chosen to access. Working a muscle that had previously been neglected.

It’s my belief that the muscles of your being are already within you, just as the muscles of your physical body are. Utilizing the concept of SAID (Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands) Principle (the body adapts to the type of physical stress and demands placed upon it) this same principle can be applied to our being.

Let’s say you’ve never made a habit of working out. Obviously, any previously neglected muscles are going to feel differently after your first workout than they will come to feel after your 100th. And while you may have felt like an imposter the first time you picked up those weights or got on that treadmill, sometimes “assuming the role” of the future self we’re endeavoring to become is essential in getting us started toward blazing a new trail.

A new trail that will eventually become the well-worn trail, gradually leading you to the next patch of unknown territory you’re meant to blaze.

It won’t be familiar to you. You may not know exactly where it will take you. You probably won’t look like you “know what you’re doing” at first because you’re not meant to.

You’re simply meant to lace up your hikers and show up with an open heart and mind and the willingness to be led into the day’s unfolding.

Faking it til you feel it is not an exercise in the false. Believing you have within you the capacity to strengthen, build, and grow EVERY muscle (especially those that remain visually unseen) is an act of faith that requires the very stamina of soul it’s helping you build.

  6. Be the change you wish to see in the world. Know it might sound old or obvious. But I believe in it big-time, especially in recent years. I'm trying hard to do it.

    If not you, then who?

  7. Switch it up

Ever get in a funk and feel like you’ve lost your mojo? Or even worse- become doubtful of the fact that you’d ever actually possessed any mojo at all. Ever? My hand is raised, brothers and sisters- been there!

And since I made a solemn vow to operate in the NO BULLSHIT ZONE I’ll be completely straightforward with the fact that I happen to be there now; feeling barren in my supposed mojo-lessness, the dark cloud casting a shadow over my every movement, threatening to wilt me into lifelessness if I don’t find my way out.

Is there a way out? In case you’re asking…

Let me assure you of this, friend: there is always a way out. It may not always look pretty while we wander around the confusing maze of our life puzzle searching for our ins and outs, but I can assure you they are always there. And luckily for us, they happen to be countless, so if one doesn’t work for you, you move on to the next. If it only works for so long, you move on to the next. See what I’m saying here? You just keep moving and you’ll find your OUT!

    But how to start?

My go-to method for getting out of a funk is to switch it up. And for this, I use the easy to understand George Costanza method.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKUvKE3bQlY&feature=youtu.be

Simply put, I do the opposite. Using George’s philosophy of:

“I always have tuna on toast. Nothing’s ever worked out for me with tuna on toast. I want the complete opposite of tuna on toast.”

I take everything that I do by rote and I do the opposite.

    • The music on my playlist? I change or rearrange it.
    • The routes I drive to get to where I usually go? I take new ones.
    • The people I see, the books I read, the food I eat- change it up.
    • The clothes I grab without thinking because they’re familiar? and I happen to despise thinking about clothing… I put on something from the back of closet/bottom of the drawer, or even more ballsy- shop for something new. Why? Because I hate shopping, but using the George Costanza Method- maybe I love shopping! I doubt it, but let’s work the steps…

You see where I’m going here?

I get in a rut because I do the same things all the time because I’m not even aware that that’s what I’m doing, so I KEEP DOING THEM!

In other words, I’m dissatisfied with what I’ve got going on, but I keep making the very choices that ensure the continuity of my dissatisfaction. Switching it up is a strategy that allows me to throw my life up in the air and let the pieces fall where they may- lighting the fire in my belly that eventually leads me back to my mojo. Which it turns out was wedged somewhere between tuna on toast and that familiar black turtleneck all along.

*I’ve re-run this post because I needed the reminder- STAT – and felt maybe someone else may need it too. As I’m adjusting to life being in my, GULP, sixties, and having to change what feels like EVERYTHING up as far as my workout, nutrition, thinking, etc… to get results, this post from many years back reminded me that change is essential to GROWTH and is to be embraced. It’s going to be okay folks- GREAT even! and I’ll be back soon to freshly post on it.

  8. NEVER BETTER! or am I?

Are you being especially challenged right now? I’m going to tell you frankly that as a person strongly affected by the ebb and flow of the collective energy, I’ve been staggering in the past, oh let’s say, 24 days or so, trying to gain a foothold. Today the universe reminded me that the surest way to find my way back to solid ground is by moving in the knowing that solid ground is there, regardless of whether I can “see” it or not. I was also reminded that I chose the “Ultimate Lesson Learner Package” before being born for more about that click HERE and that we are seen even when we feel invisible, and loved even when we feel at our least lovable. Write that down and pocket it for when you need it. 💖

    Never better! is your answer.

Were you wondering what the question was? The question is (drumroll here for effect) How are you?

    That’s it.

Never better are the only two words you actually ever need to reply when somebody casually asks you how you are. Sound nuts or harsh to you? Good! Your deprogramming has begun…

If you are a person who automatically answers, fine or doing great, when asked how you are and are perplexed that there are people who interpret those words as anything other than a greeting disguised as a question, consider yourself blessed.

This next statement is not for you because you already figured it out long ago- lucky you!

Why should you declare nothing but never better when asked how you are?

Because nobody really cares how you “are“.

That may sound harsh to you, but if you haven’t yet realized that fact, somebody needed to give you an ice-water-to-the-face reality check and it may as well be me.

You’ll thank me later, I can assure you.

Don’t go getting a weepy, poor me attitude about nobody caring for you. It’s not about that. It’s about you caring for you- first and foremost by understanding that there is rarely a good reason to spout off a list of your aches, pains, and various assorted troubles to a random acquaintance or people you are rarely in contact with.

It drains from your energy- surreptitiously robbing you of your power.

And while it may be more understandable if you’re engaging in meaningful conversation with a person you’re close to, it still may be a good idea to mindfully choose your words.

    Why?

Because nobody is listening to your words as intently as you are and you are believing them and moving in the energy they leave in their wake.

Going on at length about your inadequacies, insufficiencies, aches, pains, and other misfortunes threatens to bring down the energy of all involved- especially yourself, and disempower yourself in the process.

You believe what you’re hearing and your life takes its shape from that– slowly and seemingly silently, but always surely.

Reinforce the positive and you’ll bring in more of the positive. Wallow in the negative, and well- you guessed it.

Saying never better is not about being fake, or feigning false positivity (which is rarely conducive in bringing forth empowered energy) but instead operating in an energy of faith that good things are in the process of coming your way.

Is this always easy to do, especially during difficult times when you’ve got a dam within that threatens to burst and spill over onto the first person who shows even the slightest bit of interest in your current state?

    Hell no!

Would I need to develop all these mantras, affirmations, scripted answers, reframing methods, and other coaching mechanisms to train myself with if it was? 😁

Whether it’s the muscles of the body you’re building or the muscles of your being, one indisputable fact holds true: you must show up each day willing to do the work, regardless of the degree of difficulty involved.

    That’s your role.

And it’s a role you’re much more likely to fulfill by believing in your capacity to do so.

Don’t expect this belief to “come naturally”. You must coach yourself into empowered belief by speaking to and about yourself with the same encouraging words that you’d pay someone else to coach you with.

As Joyce Meyer says: “You can be pitiful or powerful, but you can’t be both.”

Let’s choose power. DAILY. On purpose. By coaching ourselves into it. Raising the collective vibe and empowering others in the process. Because WE CAN.

    So, how am I doing?

    Never better, friend. Never better.

    I just needed some reminding.
