  1. are going after the little independent too, not just the . RNLI's donations apparently shot up when they did that. Let's make the same happen for all the others! facebook.com/photo/?fbid=14057

  2. “The #RNLI has defended its work in the Channel, saying that for more than 200 years it rescued people without judgment, fear or favour.”

My mum in law memorialised my step mum on a lifeboat. The lettering you can see on the boats is composed of gazillions of names written very small. I was livid to think my mum’s or anyone’s name might have been defaced. It’s odd to me it’s a charity rather than a government concern. But the British feel VERY strongly about sea rescues–island nation.

  3. I am gobsmacked that somehow it has become controversial to state that saving the lives of people in peril at sea is a good thing to do.

    But apparently it is.

Anyway, if you think that saving lives at sea is a good thing to do, perhaps you'd like to show your support by donating a few quid to the RNLI? I'm sure they could use a bit of support right now.

  4. @urlyman

The UK #MetOffice is predicting temperatures by mid century which will trigger mass death events. It's now too late to prevent this, because of inertia and hysteresis in the climate system. So it's already too late to have a 'soft landing', even in what are now temperate zones.

What we need to be building towards is #lifeboats -- relatively self-sufficient regions which can survive when global systems fail.

    Because they will.

  6. #RNLI #lifeboats are on call all day, every day. All the crew are volunteers. ❤️

#Kropotkin praised the RNLI as one of the finest examples of his principle of #mutualAid.

In #WestCork, teenage volunteer Muireann O’Donnell and her father Aodh will spend Christmas on call with the inshore lifeboat crew in the village of #UnionHall.

  7. Lifeboat

The Newhaven Lifeboat makes a dramatic scene whilst piloting past Beachy Head lighthouse.

  8. Latest weekender idiots calling for help off the north Wales coast.

They decided to go paddle boarding. The forecast is clear as to this being a very bad idea; force 4-6, occasionally 7.

And that's without taking some of the strongest tidal currents to be found anywhere into account.

  9. As we batten down the hatches for storm #darragh spare a thought for the boys and girls of the Coastguard, in the air, land and sea and for the lifeboats, up and down this and neighbouring countries, some of whom will have to deploy into the tempest

Maybe even make a donation to the RNLI:

  10. Seems to be sad news with an ongoing search for a missing diver off the northern Llŷn Peninsula. A rebreather has been found just off the coast. Lifeboat and coastguard helicopter on-scene and searching.

  13. It’s a pleasure to support the RNLI in another concert, this time in the beautiful St Clement Danes Church in London on 9th May. #singing #lifeboats #wales

  14. Just over 200 years ago the #RNLI was founded by Sir William Hillary, his moto was "With courage, nothing is impossible" - reckon that's a pretty good #thoughtfortheday

    1. Blue sky, mild and generally a GOOD DAY, especially if you're participating in a 'run between the stations' 18 miles fundraiser for Harwich Lifeboat from Walton to Harwich.

    2. I wasn't running, just washing up for the serving of tea and cake.

3++++. There was chocolate cake left over that came home, yum.

  16. I'm part of a work event to row 1,000,000 metres in 24 hours, supporting the RNLI. 4 machines, 24 hours, 1,000km: that's about 11km for each of our hour slots. I haven't left myself much time to fundraise (it's next Wednesday), and I can't bring myself to post it (or indeed anything else) on Facebook, but if anyone over here wants to support the RNLI, here's an excuse!
