Close by the statue in Port William is an excellent community run cafe called The View which was set up to help fund a life boat service that the RLNI were not willing to fund because they thought that there was insufficient need on this stretch of coast, but the local community did think was necessary.

Auch ein britisches Flugzeug u. ein franz. #Dauphin Rettungshubschrauber beteiligten sich an der Suche. Der Dauphin entdeckte eine leblose Person im Wasser, die von dem RNLI Team geborgen wurde. Diese wurde später an Bord der #AbeilleNormandie für tot erklärt.

Perhaps you're old enough to remember the #Penlee #lifeboat disaster, which happened 41 years today? A crew of 8 volunteers set out in #RNLI's "Solomon Browne" in hurricane force winds & 18m waves to rescue the crew from a boat whose engines had failed & was drifting towards rocks.

Despite heroic attempts, 16 lives were lost.
