Two complete villages with all people were massacred, including women and kids. Have memorial at #Lidice and #Ležáky. But why not, U.S. are becoming oppressors fast. Hitler had ordered that the memory of Lidice was to die.
Lidice was chosen because a man named Vaclav Říha wanted to end his affair with Anna Maruščáková. He sent a cryptic note to her workplace, suggesting that he was involved in the assassination of Heydrich (he wasn't). Under interrogation, she mentioned that a couple of men from Lidice were in Britain. The Gestapo initially assumed those two men were the ones that had assassinated Heydrich. By 10th June, they'd realised their mistake, but by then Hitler had issued his decree, and so Lidice was destroyed.

Vytvořila sousoší lidických dětí i ikonickou minci s dívkou sázející lípu. Akademická malířka a medailérka Marie Uchytilová (1924-1989) má v Plzni, kde trávila dětství i studentská léta, čestný hrob. Nachází se na ústředním hřbitově a zřídilo ho město. K vyhlazení Lidic došlo 9. a 10. června 1942.

#OnThisDay in 1942, Warrant Officers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš ambushed Reinhard Heydrich and attempted to assassinate him. He was wounded and later died in hospital.
The reprisals were brutal and swift, and eventually led to the complete destruction of the village of #Lidice.

Co má společného stará československá koruna s Lidicemi?
Autorkou mince je Marie Uchytilová. Zobrazila na ní dívku odsouzenou v 50.letech na osm let vězení za to, že vedla skautský oddíl. To byl první Mariin kousek. Druhý byl mnohem větší. Marie od šedesátých let pracovala na sousoší 82 lidických dětí. Zadarmo!
"Až lidé uvidí všechny děti pohromadě,' říkala, 'uvědomí si, co to bylo za hrůzu! Tolik dětských obětí jen z jedné malé vesnice!" -
