  2. Here is the track and wind speeds of hurricane Lidia over the past 7 days.

Note the explosive intensification on Oct 10, as the hurricane raced over very warm waters.

Intense hurricanes are just one consequence of the excess heat stored in oceans due to global warming.

Other effects include ecosystem destruction, rain/drought pattern changes, sea ice loss, lower CO2 sequestration and ocean current disruptions.

  3. Recent satellite view of Hurricane #Lidia over #Jalisco, Mexico. Winds approaching 105 mph, pressure 942 mb. #HurricaneLidia #HuracánLidia #weather #WX

  4. Lidia appears to have a pretty tight core, per the NHC, and Puerto Vallarta is shielded by a mountain range, so maybe just inconvenience for the tourists, rather than CAT4 hurricane conditions. #Lidia #Hurricane #HurricaneLidia #Cat4

  5. Major Hurricane #Lidia has made landfall just south of #puertovallarta. At 6pm MDT yesterday it was 65mph. Today at 6pm it was 140mph. A Cat 4. It increased 75mph in 24 hrs.

There have been only 5 other major hurricanes to pass within 100 miles of Puerto Vallarta in the past. All since 2002. And two of them were last year.

  6. Edit: apparently it's now Category 4 (!). It was Cat 1 this morning. #Lidia #Hurricane nhc.noaa.gov/?epac#Lidia
