@RVLara23 @Daojoan if I can "read" a book while biking or driving a car (safely), talking a walk or doing chores - that's a superpower. Even if my comprehension isn't as good, that's still way better than not engaging with a book at all!
Sometimes I use text to speech to read me articles or papers or other written media I am researching (or just enjoying casually). And some audiobooks are just incredible works of art, bringing my beloved books to life in a very new way.Shoutout to #LibriVox !

#Texas banned #Plato in schools, so here are a bunch of Plato as #free #audiobooks from #Librivox

I'm always late to the party so happy new year everyone! ⭐️
Saw an incredible drawing by #HenryWestonKeen on #Wikicommons and decided to make a (very sketchy and messy) reproduction with #Inkscape for my first #LibriVox cover of the year. Hope it's not a bad omen 😁

It's been a while since I shared my last #librivox #audiobook cover so here it goes.
Don't forget you can check the ongoing series (as well as download the #publicdomain files made with #inkscape) both on #patreon and the #internetarchive.

It has come to my attention that today is National Lighthouse Day. This calls for a bit of celebration!
One of my LibriVox audiobook projects was recording "Instructions to Light Keepers", an instruction manual for lighthouse staff written in 1881. With this little booklet in hand, a keeper could learn how to do anything, from keeping the lights burning to keeping the supply inventory in order.
Some sections are admittedly a bit dry and technical. If you want a good picture of the general duties of a light keeper's day, without getting too deeply into the details, try Section 1 "General Instructions to Light Keepers" and Section 4 "Instructions to Keepers of Light Ships". That's just a half-hour of the most interesting material.
Here's a link to the audiobook -

The cover photo shows our local Rochester NY lighthouse. It is no longer an active light, but has undergone restoration, and is open to the public on weekends.

The LibriVox 20th Anniversary Collection is here!
Each year, LibriVox public domain audiobooks celebrates its anniversary in August, by publishing a collection of short works, (stories, poems, and nonfiction). Every item in the collection must contain the number of the anniversary year somewhere in its title. This year, the magic number is Twenty!
I have contributed to past anniversary collections, but this year I've been so "out of it" that I missed the whole thing. But I'm still going to enjoy listening to the other contributions. If you would also like to sample the collection, here is the link -

Off to listen to "Strange Stories from the Lodge of Leisure", a #LibriVox #Audiobook of some (?) 15 #ChineseGhostStories.
My mild suspicion is that the Lodge of Leisure is an opium den.
I could claim that I'm doing background reading for the #JudgeDee stories. But I'm not really.
Becoming clear that one possibility for #WhatHappensAfterYouDie is that ghost stories can get made up about you. Beautiful young women seem especially prone to this fate.

@billyjoebowers @CindyWeinstein @Daojoan "Edgar Allan Poe’s only complete novel, published in 1838."
#Librivox has it!

I finished Anne of Green Gables recently. I enjoyed it! I was reading other books at the same time, so it took me a while to finish it, but every time I listened to a chapter I liked it. It's funny and touching. I found that listening to a few of Anne's misadventures was a great way to wind down during anxious times. It was like spending time with a "kindred spirit" to borrow one of Anne's favorite phrases.

Librivox.org has free public domain audio books done by volunteers.
It's pretty awesome.

@trummerschlunk @falktx @x42 @PrototypeFund This isn't just a great tool for podcasters. Audiobook creators, like the people at #librivox who usually don't have a lot of skills and knowledge about audio editing and mixing could benefit immensely from this. As well as reels and all sorts of content creators. A really great tool indeed!

I was watching _Terry Talks Movies_ on #YouTube last night, and he made a passing comment about some old #MovieSerials, including one called _The Mysterious Doctor Satan_, which drew my interest. But given that the hero in that serial is name the Copperhead, the villain's name is just a coincidence, and has nothing to do with the Paul Ernst novellas in _Weird Tales_.
However, searching on #YouTube further, I found that a channel called _HorrorBabble_ has done readings of five of the eight Doctor Satan #pulp thrillers, with them running about 1h15m. I may listen to one the next time I'm chopping vegetables for slow cooker stew.
#Librivox has also done some Paul Ernst stories, but none of the #DoctorSatan ones. I've already read three of the ones Librivox has, and have the other two in the waiting novelette pack.
