I recently acquired a new Turris Omnia NG router from @turris to take advantage of my new 10 Gbit/s internet speed from my provider Init7. Now I was really curious about my actual speed ...

This led me to LibreSpeed (https://github.com/librespeed), an Open Source speed test tool which is working by default with PHP. Unfortunately the router isn't powerful to provide reasonable measurements because the chunk files to test the download speed are generated by PHP and openssl. This appeared to be a bottleneck.

So I was tinkering a little bit and created a NGINX backend for LibreSpeed which doesn't rely on PHP.

Now I have put together this in a GitHub comment: https://github.com/librespeed/speedtest/issues/375#issuecomment-3769211254

(I still rely on PHP to get the IP address and to store the measurements though, but this is lightweight enough for the router.)

@kubikpixel Bist du sicher, dass das ein #Tracking-freier Service sein soll?

Er funktioniert wenigstens, wenn man nur die #LibreSpeed-Domain in NoScript freischaltet aber ansonsten möchte das Teil für meinen Geschmack viel zu vielen Domains Zugriff auf meinen Rechner verschaffen.

Nicht, dass andere Speedtests besser wären aber #Privacy geht halt anders. 😔

Turns out there is a native #LibAdwaita speedtest utility application for #GNOME desktops, and it uses uses #LibreSpeed. Very cool. I wish it (librespeed?) had more server choices available.

I used it for fun, looked at the bug tracker, saw someone reported high CPU usage, so of course I dropped everything else to profile it with #sysprof : https://github.com/Ketok4321/speedtest/issues/29#issuecomment-2192412380

#librespeed is a nice bandwidth test for self hosting. Just clone into a directory offered by nginx or apache with PHP, make a copy of one file, and then you have your own speed test running.

Does not sound to interesting.. but it is!
Walking through the flat with the smartphone, via wlan executing the test, you can compare reception.

Leider hat das #ICSI den #Netalyzr eingestampft.

Theoretisch kann mensch auch #iperf, #LibreSpeed oder #Speedtest.net #CLI cron'en und sich den Output per script und https://ntfy.sh aufs Smartphone schicken lassen...

@federico3 I don't see how they can be closed source, they're running #librespeed software which is clearly open source. Or am I getting your point wrong?
