So, personal rant, necessitated because #Canada has a 4th world passenger train system.
My mother and sister are trapped in Calgary because a snowstorm stopped all flights. #westjet is now price gouging: a one way ticket from Calgary to Vancouver (1.5 hour flight) is $800 per person, economy, in 4 days. WestJet cancels almost all flights and then gouges the hell out of anyone desperate enough to buy one of the handful of open seats.
There is no train from Calgary to Vancouver. Trains plow through snow. More cars can be added to trains in the event of emergencies like this. But our corrupt, useless governments subsidize air way more than rail, so...too bad for us.
