@Lana I mostly avoid 2nd Amendment topics here. That's not what this account is for and not why most people are here. Reducing the number of people hurt with firearms and maintaining the ability to defend oneself and their communities are topics I feel strong about. Contrary to popular narrative, you can't just go into a store and buy a gun in US without an ID, paperwork and a background check. The ATF From 4473 is the start of that process. Lying on that form puts you at risk for a federal offense and the vendor at risk if they knowingly accept it. The latter gives the vendor an excuse to not sell to you. Short version, regardless of how you feel about firearms, it's discriminatory and we should all push back.

The ATF is proposing to revise a bunch of rules. It's mostly a good thing but there is culture war BS in there too. Specifically, folks have to enter their gender at birth on Form 4473. As this may not match their current government ID, it's a legal trap for those folks as well as the FFL. Today is the last day to comment on this proposed rule. Long day yesterday. Had five students in a classroom for six hours taking the basic safety class for the state firearms license. Pleased to say they persevered and stayed engaged to the end.
Have a few follow on live fire sessions scheduled this week. (Live fire is one-on-one or two students in a session.) Hopefully the weather will be nice enough to use one of the outdoor ranges.

Another great but long day. Rifle 102 at Sig Sauer in New Hampshire. Training there is fantastic. Great facility with great instructors.
Teaching is a lot more than just knowing your subject. It's being able to convey those skills to different learning styles. It's also understanding how your students are doing holistically and being able to adjust to give them what they need when they need it. It's not an easy task and these folks nail it, consistently.

Great range night. Met some new folks. Lots of smiles. Had a few who hadn't shot in a while.
More coaching than shooting for me but had a blast. Even got to participate in the fun shoot and won an awesome homemade blade.
I know the culture war narrative is that all firearms owners are right wing etc but that's just false. If you're curious, come hang out with us. I'm pretty sure you'll have fun.

Up way too early this morning. Those of you used to getting up before sunrise have my respect. (Especially if you're one of those folks who does it so the rest of us can get caffeinated, fed, and to work)
Off to spend the day with a few dozen like-minded liberal folks to play with a bunch of hardware and defend the world from paper.

I'm at the Liberal Gun Club annual meeting near Pittsburgh, PA this weekend. (Yes, liberals own guns too.) A lot of folks have driven days to get here. Nice to finally meet some folks in person who I've only spoken with online.
Couple days of classes and hanging out. Going to be a good weekend.

Ask around and you'll find folks in your peer group willing to help. They're out here, they're just not often public about it.
