That moment when you realize half your high school friends have come out as queer!
Just found out another one of my friends is part of the LGBTQ+ community, and honestly, my wife was right—queer people really do attract each other! It’s incredible to see so many of us embracing who we are.
But, it breaks my heart to hear that my friend has faced discrimination, even from within our own community. It’s tough enough dealing with homophobia and transphobia from outsiders, but when it comes from within, it feels even more hurtful. We need to do better in supporting each other, no matter what. 💔

I just got told that I am not a real Christian since I am gay. I think that is the biggest contradiction of Christ's work I have ever, ever, ever heard in my life. I think self reflection and how some people choose to love and show respect needs to be reevaluated. My goodness. ✝️🏳️🌈

What a whirlwind today turned out to be. It all started with prepping for my dental surgery tomorrow. First stop was the dentist's office for a clonazepam prescription. Without it, I'd be a nervous wreck in the chair, especially since full anesthesia isn't a thing here in Mexico – just local. But, wouldn't you know it, the prescription was incomplete. Cue the phone tag with the dental office to get it sorted. In the midst of all that, I tackled my tax declaration, which turned into its own little nightmare thanks to some withholding snafus, leaving me to cough up more cash than expected. Not exactly a win.
But the heart of today was about opening up to my mom, laying the groundwork before the big reveal about my gender identity. We delved into my mental health, stuff she hadn't been fully aware of. It's crazy how often mental health is swept under the rug, seen as a weakness. It was a big step, sharing that part of me, and her reaction was... surprising.
Amidst the heavy mental health chat, I threw out a hypothetical – what if I were gay? Her surprise was palpable, but her reaction was unintentionally revealing. Despite outting another family member without their consent (which I gently called out), the conversation turned to what it means to be transgender. She admitted she didn't really understand the term, which threw me for a loop. But, when I framed my hypothetical scenario about being gay, her response was a beacon of hope: "I would still love you and accept you for who you are." It wasn't about being gay but testing the waters of acceptance, and her words filled me with hope.
Ending the day, I feel a newfound confidence in my mom's support, mixed with a tinge of anxiety about the dental surgery looming on the horizon. Yet, that conversation with her? It's given me a solid foundation of hope to build on.

I recently revisited the coming-out conversation, this time with a former manager who played a crucial role in my career during a transformative phase at a big software company. Initially overwhelmed by legacy systems and a sea of faces, my confidence and performance were shaky. The shift came with a restructured team and a new manager, a woman whose leadership turned us into a high-performing unit and, personally, helped me find my stride. She was a beacon during my tenure, but left due to an increasingly toxic executive environment. After I was laid off, we lost touch, only reconnecting recently over lunch.
I seized the moment to come out as transgender. It was a leap into the unknown, but she responded with nothing but support and understanding, transforming our professional bond into a personal one. Her reaction was a beam of light, affirming my journey.
As I am preparing to be headed to Mexico for a dental procedure and a family visit, navigating the delicate balance of my old self in their presence. The prospect of concealing my identity is daunting; even my therapist offered her support should dysphoria become overwhelming. The looming challenge of eventually coming out to my family haunts me, yet the encounter with my former manager has fortified my resolve.
Amidst the chaos of flight changes and packing, a salon visit offered a moment of peace, preparing me for the trip not just physically, but emotionally. It's a small rebellion — hints of my true self peeking through, a prelude to the revelation that awaits.
