  1. I figured it was finally time for a new #introduction post, so here goes.

Hi, I’m Deanna (they/them) :blobfoxwave:. I’m nonbinary and genderfluid. I’ve moved around Europe a lot, before finding my home in #Finland. I have #misophonia and I’ve been dealing with #LongCovid since mid 2020.

I really enjoy #travelling, although with the #ClimateCrisis I try to minimise my carbon emissions when travelling. I love #music and #musicals, and I’m always happy to get recommendations. I also really like #baking and #cooking (mostly #vegan). Other interests include #DoctorWho and #origami.

I work as a physicist studying some of the cool stuff that happened in the early universe. I’m very passionate about science #outreach and I’ve been doing #cosmology livestreams - called #CupOfCosmology - since late 2015 (link in bio). I'm also open about my struggles with #MentalHealth in academia, and my experience as #LGBTQInSTEM and as a (perceived) #WomanInSTEM.

I love meeting new people, so feel free to follow and interact!

  2. New #Introduction!

👋 I'm David (or D. or Dave), a queer Fennoscottish physicist.

Although my work is in #physics and you will see #science stuff on here, I write here in a personal capacity expressing my own opinions. I try to draw attention to experiences of being #LGBTQInSTEM and #QueerInSTEM. I'm also interested in becoming a better #teacher and learning more about #pedagogy, as well as putting it into practice.

I'm interested in the outdoors, in #hiking and in understanding the natural world around me. I'm terrible at recognising #birds but I am trying to get better at it. I also love #gardening and adore (non-invasive) #rhododendrons.

Raising awareness about #ClimateChange and engaging in #SlowTravel is important for me. I try to do as much work and personal travel as I can in a low carbon way. Fortunately, I love #trains too.

Feel free to follow me, but I generally only follow people that I have actually interacted with.

  3. I'm David, a queer Finnish physicist originally from Scotland. I write on here in a personal capacity.

I use big computers to simulate the very early universe.

I also want to become a better teacher. For example, I want to understand what leads people from minoritised groups to abandon studies in physics.

I help out with the local LGBTQ+ community, such as our LGBTQ+ STEM day events.

  4. This summer, I got to present some workshops on #trans #nonbinary #TGNC inclusion at the Wilson Ornithological Society meeting. This post recaps some of the main points of those wonderful discussions.

  9. I shared this in my intro, but it's a piece I'm really proud of that: how teaching #biology through a #transgender and #intersex inclusive lens not only creates more welcoming classrooms, but actually makes us better at teaching about things like sex determination and genetics.

  10. I had assumed most my followers here would be people who already knew me from Twitter, but since it seems like that's not the case, I thought I'd share more of my past #writing you may have missed!

I #blog on my website on a variety of topics. Many are about #QueerInSTEM topics, like this guide to building an inclusive lab:
