  1. LEX 18 reports the Lexington Children’s Museum received $5.8 million from the Kentucky General Assembly for a new facility. The museum had reportedly outgrown its current space badly enough to turn away 50 field trips last year.

#MotherTeresaShelter provides refuge for single, #unhoused individuals

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - "With bitterly cold temperatures hitting Kentucky, community advocates are working to ensure those living on the streets have a warm place to go.

"The Catholic Action Center has opened an impromptu warming shelter for single, unhoused individuals who need somewhere to go ahead of the winter storm.

"Ginny Ramsey with the Catholic Action Center said the space is the Mother Teresa Shelter, which is located toward the back of the Catholic Action Center on Goodwin Drive.

"She said this part of the building hasn’t been serving a purpose recently, so Thursday, she and other Catholic Action Center members wanted to provide this service.

    Cold weather already causing injuries

"The Catholic Action Center placed several unhoused people in hotels, but Ramsey said she knows it’s impossible to get everyone taken care of.

"Ramsey said she believes this is the city’s only #WarmingShelter open for those who are currently homeless, and she’s hopeful that word will get out about it because she worries what will happen if people are out on the streets much longer.

" 'We have found so many people this week who already have damage from the cold. Some of them have already been pretty — we’ve had to take some to the hospital. We’ve had to bring some to get them warmed up, we know the damage going on out there,' Ramsey said.

"The warming shelter opened at noon Saturday and will be open until noon Tuesday."

  7. We said a bittersweet goodbye to the #Fosterkittens today as they're ready to be fixed and adopted.

This litter was somewhat special. They had really bad upper respiratory and required bottle feeding for much of their time with us. We grew especially attached to Mr. Mayor (center), who has an unusually exuberant personality.

They'll be up for adoption soon at #LexingtonKY Humane Society: lexingtonhumanesociety.org/

Scroll up to see their progress since September!

  8. Not sure how many people I know on here in #LexingtonKY , but worth a shot.

Found cat on Laredo Dr. Very friendly cat (no collar, I *think* they are declawed, they even let me rub their belly) showed up today, meowing like crazy.

We don't really have any means to take them in our house. I've texted Paws4TheCause to see if they can take the cat, and Lexington Animal Care and Control is not open on Sundays.

You can DM me if you think this is your cat, or are able to take them.

  9. Taking #PublicTransit in American suburbia can require some adjustment and planning, but these are the conversations you start having if you can pull it off.

Also an excuse to show off my Signal background.

  20. I see what Lexington is trying to do: provide bike/ped infrastructure as long as it doesn't inconvenience drivers in any way. So they've got nice wide downtown walking places next to three lanes of one-way traffic going 40 miles an hour. It's sad because they must have some political will for bike/ped, but all the cars makes downtown very uncomfortable. #LexingtonKY #UrbanPlanning

  27. I was at the #JuliettaMarket in #LexingtonKY today and a young woman with a baby came up to me, apologized if it seemed strange, and told me God had told her to speak to me. She felt I had experienced grief but was a joyous person and I am meant to share that with others and help them especialy as they age. She didn't want anything and walked away. My companion thought it was funny that I didn't think this weird. I thought it was wonderful, courageous, and generous of the woman.

  31. Yesterday, #GainesvilleFL City Commission was expected to join #NashvilleTN and abolish the city’s #parking mandates, but the item (second reading), got tabled until 11/29 because of unrelated drama.

If it had happened it would have been the second time in a month that two cities repealed their mandates in one week! (a few weeks ago #CulverCityCA and #LexingtonKY did it)

    #parkingreform is sweeping the nation.
