Longtermism (L) is a continuation of effective altruism: It assumes that humanity will succeed in colonizing the entire universe or creating virtual worlds that would then contain unimaginable numbers of posthumans. Under these assumptions, it would create much more total "value" in the universe if today's limited resources would be spent to the benefit of these future posthumans that will only be born in billions or even trillions of years from now, than to the benefit of the humans living today. Believers claim to aim to positively affect the greatest number of people possible. In this belief system, most people who could exist, will exist in the far, far future. Believers argue that humanity should stop focusing on currently living people and their contemporary problems, unless it would influence the distant future, because this approach is a suboptimal use of resources on the mission to maximize total value. Humanity should instead focus on what would benefit the population in the far, far future, which adds more total value to the universe due to the unimaginably larger number of people in the future population. This suspiciously somehow always seems to coincide with what benefits billionaires today.
Representatives of each toxic ideology have been platformed on the #LexFridman podcast. From Ray Kurzweil to Nick Bostrom to Ben Goertzel to Eliezer Yudkowsky to William MacAskill to Elon Musk.
I've watched colleages fall victim to these toxic ideologies because they didn't understand them. They naively and cluelessly thought of Lex Fridman as a role model and an intelligent, disciplined bigger brother who is good at playing guitar and martial arts. They'd thought the platformed guests were just random people with interesting ideas, rather than a concerted effort to spread these toxic ideologies among young (and not so young) men.
And I haven't even mentioned effective accelerationism or figures like Guillaume Verdon or Marc Andreessen yet. They want to maximize the likelihood of the realization of AGI (see singularitarianism) by turning the knobs of capitalism to eleven. And everyone should know this means fascism.

I have been studying this interview with John Carmack, for years now. In the past month I must've played through it at least a dozen times. It's such a treasure trove. I think programmers specifically will find it enrichibg, but also everyone who's working on computer games.
Do as I do: download this and listen to it over and over. Week after week I discover new layers to this conversation. #JohnCarmack #LexFridman #GameDev #Programming

> I will definitely read your post and I will form my opinion about him.
Thank you.
> Have a good day.
Thank you.
> Surely I published that not to promote any of these terrible things you mentioned, but because I found the story about undiscovered tribes and huge anacondas interesting.
I get that and I believe you, and three years after my personal breaking point where I finally couldn't but accept who Lex Fridman truly is, I still struggle with that point. I watched the first episode with Rosolie and found it super interesting, and would like to see more if only I wouldn't be supporting Fridman that way, so I get you.
Please read this article to know what I mean and learn where I come from:
https://www.businessinsider.com/lex-fridman-podcast-anti-woke-elon-musk-aiI love everything science and up until three years ago, I watched almost every episode. After I could no longer justify how Lex can remain friends with Musk, even in 2023, and even become friends with Mark Zuckerberg—I couldn't give Lex the benefit of the doubt anymore—I struggled and was in denial for a while. For years, I had watched almost all of his episodes, so it felt somewhat like part of my identity … that I now needed to let go off, when I finally accepted that Lex is playing us for fools with his both-sideism.
Analogy: When I learn that my favorite bar is owned by a Hell's Angel, I won't go there anymore, not even for a public viewing of the soccer world championship. Not even when that bar has the biggest TVs and best beer in town. Because going there would legitimize that bar. That's how I see it. Same with random interesting episodes from a podcast that shouldn't be legitimized.

@pawelgrzybek Hi Paweł, I discovered you through the #neovim hashtag and enjoy your Neovim tips. I also enjoy your keyboard-related content as I use a ZSA Moonlander myself.
But I wish you would take this following post of mine to heart (and all my other posts I tagged with #LexFridman).
Mentioned post: https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/115892790934745772
All tagged posts: https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/tagged/LexFridman
I wrote them with my ex-coworkers in mind who are still big fans of Fridman, like I was up until three years ago. I ended contact with them because I won't be friends with people who align their thinking with a friend of Musk, Trump's daughter, Rogan, and other fascist figures. Even if that friend of fascist figures mixes interesting episodes like those with Rosolie in-between his platforming of fascists like Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump, JFK Jr., Balaji Srinivasan, Jordan Peterson, and many more. Lex willingly and intentionally contributed to get Trump elected.
Of course I can't command you what to do, but I will unfollow you if I keep seeing my fascism-legitimizing ex-coworkers in you. Your neovim tips aren't important enough to me that I couldn't do without them, as good as they are.
P.S. I write this because I enjoy your content and share your interests and would like to avoid unfollowing you. If I thought you were a fascist and promoted fascism intentionally, I would've just blocked you instead of trying to convince you to see what I see.

The disgusting billionaire Bill Ackman donated $10,000 to the GoFundMe campaign for the fascist murderer of Renee Good.
Side note: GoFundMe violates its own rules by tolerating that campaign in the first place.
Ackman is the racist bully who pressured Harvard's first female black president into losing her position, by campaigning against diversity and inclusion. What a dick.
His wife is Neri Oxman, employed at MIT. Both are very good friends of Lex Fridman. Both were already on Lex's podcast. Multiple times even in Neri's case.
Ackman was on mainly to bitch and whine about his racist worldview, being the pathetic loser that he is. Oxman talked much about biology and science.
This is what you legitimate if you watch or listen to the #LexFridman podcast. Even if you say, "I skip all the politicial episodes and those episodes where he invites obvious right-wingers such as Trump. I watch only the episodes with scientists."
First: Oxman is an example where a guest who's seemingly "just a scientist" is in reality not that … but more.
Second: Still, you legitimize a podcast that also invites those other guest.
Stop idolizing Lex Fridman if you still do. Stop watching his interviews, alltogether, if you still do. He can say he's neither right nor left but forms his opinion on a case-by-case basis as often as he likes, but it's obvious to anyone who pays attention where Lex Fridman stands politically and morally. Distance yourself.

If you still listen to the podcast of any of Elon Musk's friends, then you are no friend of mine.
That includes the podcasts of:
- #LexFridman
- #JoeRogan
- #ShaneParrish
- #NavalRavikantElon Musk is a disgusting murderer and nazi and abuser who is fine with pedophelia and enables child pornography.
All mentioned people are friends with him or support him. Some do it more openly, others mix interviews with scientists and apparent experts on interesting topics into their podcast and try to balance out their support of right-wing extremism. It makes no difference.
If you still listen to anyone's of these people's podcasts, I want nothing to do with you. You are listening to your own enemy and don't even realize it.

Joscha Bach—maybe you saw him on the Lex Fridman Podcast—is incredibly racist and contemptous of women and also writes that society should just execute its elderly people, similar to how a brain allegedly terminates weak brain cells.
Bach self-describes as cognitive scientist and AI researcher.
Oh, and Bach was deeply connected with known pedophile and criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
Joscha Bach has also been on the #LexFridman podcast three or four times already. Lex called him one of his favorite guests.
Maybe you should finally stop listening to podcasts like Lex Fridman, Andrew Huberman, that all are fascist to the core. Just because your ears don't hear the fascist dog whistle doesn't mean these podcasters ain't fascists.

In case you still haven't realized: Andrew Huberman is a fascist.
To understand that, you first need to understand Balaji Srinivasan and his idea of "network states".
Srinivasan is a most deranged, narcissistic, despicable scumbag fascist. Him being an ultracapitalist, he wants to create city-states where the law of existing states doesn't apply. Meaning, no taxes and no regulation. He wants to rule these cities as part of an authoritarian technocratic plutocratic class. (Plutocracy means that the rich have the power, rather than the people as in democracy.) He wants a new feudalism: If you think of the medieval age or Game of Thrones, he wants to be a lord, and regular people will have to be his serfs if they don't want to get beaten by the police which he bribes.
Lex Fridman had Srinivasan on his podcast a while ago, where Srinivasan yapped about his fascist ideas for 8 hours straight! That narcissist sure loves the sound of his own voice. Completely insufferable.
And Huberman commented under that episode, along the lines of, "What a great episode, so much insight! Learned so much."
Now Huberman is a speaker at one of Srinivasan's conferences promoting these fascist ideas, among other well-known fascists/ultracapitalists.
Huberman may have helped you reduce your alcohol intake, but he's a giant 🤬 and evidently a fascist. Only idiots continue to seek advice from such an agent of evil.

"The answer to hate is not hate," says Charlie Kirk's wife.
So does that imply that Charlie Kirk's wife admits that her husband was a hateful person?
Lex Fridman has some ultra far-right ideas, and has always been that way. Keep that in mind when you watch his podcasts.
Despite of what he says that he is "neither right nor left" or whatever else of the things he says that lull you into not believing who he is when he shows you who he is.
I don't say that based on one single comment he made about Charlie Kirk. I say that based on years and years of his actions and behavior: From saying that the fascist and completely unlikable Balaji Srinivasan is a great man with great ideas, to sucking Elon Musk's dick since forever.
The "irony" (if you want to call it that) is that his latest podcast episode is about how Hitler could so successfully and completely dominate Europe, while at the same time, Lex promotes fascists in the open.
About the sucking of Musk's dick: Lex has not written a single paper that is being taken serious in his field. His most successful paper was a sketchy biased paper in 2019 that intentionally legitimized Tesla's "autopilot" feature in the same year that this crappy scam of a feature had caused multiple deaths because the Teslas just drove into trucks with full speed. And that paper has since been pulled back by his university, MIT, because they are ashamed of it.

Interesting Podcast: Norman Ohler: #Hitler, #Nazis, Drugs, WW2, Blitzkrieg, #LSD, MKUltra & #CIA, #LexFridman
#NormanOhler is a historian and author of “Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich,” a book that investigates the role of psychoactive drugs, particularly stimulants such as methamphetamine, in the military history of World War II.
Historians give it very high praise for its depth of research
Norman also wrote “Tripped: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age”, and he is working on a new book “Stoned Sapiens” looking at the history of human civilization through the lens of drugs.

To anyone still watching the Lex Fridman Podcast:
Grok literally adored Adolf Hitler, hailed Hitler as the greatest person of the recent past, called itself MechaHitler, spewed a lot of anti-semitic hate, and all of this just last week. Before that it was sowing seeds of alleged "white genocide" in gullible people's minds.
This attached message by the dicksucker Lex Fridman is just disgusting.
Didn't you hear, Lex, that Elon Musk, on long flights, likes to ask his female masseurs to "finish him off" for 15 million dollars and presents his erected penis to them? Why don't you start doing this job for Elon, since you like to suck up to him so much, or are you already?
It's a mystery to me how any decent person can still admire Lex Fridman and watch his fascist-platforming show. I know quite a few of such folks in real life though, and nothing I could say seems to be able to change their minds. Stop being so naive!
-
@meowski You should put on some #LexFridman
-
A sane-washing opportunity for Trump and Musk is most certainly *not* needed.
In case you (or your co-workers) still think of Lex Fridman as this inspiring ultra-intelligent disciplined stoic role model–
Despite what he claims—
Despite claiming being neither right nor left—Lex is on the ultra-far-right end of the spectrum and constantly promoting fascist climate-destroying enemies of humanity who will have killed millions of people with their actions once temperatures reach 3°C above pre-industrial levels.
-
Using Grok for "general learning" … you might as well ask for a SS commander or Hitler himself as your history teacher. Grok is completely biased.
Currently, #ElonMusk configured Grok to insert ramblings about "white genocide" into each of its replies, and this is not the first time that #Musk tuned Grok to his hateful Nazi ideology.
If you're still watching or listening to the Lex Fridman podcast, you're supporting/enabling someone who supports ultra right-wing ideology and fascism. Yes, fascism. Lex had Balaji Srinivasan on his show, to name just one asshole Lex platformed. What need I say more?
Personally, I had multiple co-workers tell me, "I watched RFK Jr. on the Lex Fridman podcast. He made total sense to me, he's not the conspiracy theorist everyone says he is." I "lost" a couple of colleagues who I had thought decent to this propaganda.
It's like Aragorn warns in the LotR when they mistake Gandalf the White for Saruman: Don't let Saruman speak. His words would put a spell on you. And before you know it, you're hailing and praising fascists.

After a group of liberal intellectuals published a letter in Harper’s on July 7, 2020, some of its signers were invited to join a Signal group called “Everything Is Fine.”
There, writers including #Kmele #Foster, who co-hosts the podcast
"The Fifth Column", Persuasion founder #Yascha #Mounk, and the Harper’s letter contributor Williams joined Andreessen and a group that also included the anti-woke conservative activist #Chris #Rufo. The new participants were charmed by Andreessen’s engagement:
“He was the most available, the most present, the most texting of anybody in the group
— which shocked me because it seemed like he was the most important person in the group,” one said. But the center didn’t hold.
The liberal Harper’s types were surprised to find what one described an

they wrote. The conservatives had thought the Harper’s letter writers were their allies in an all-out ideological battle,
and considered their position a betrayal.Andreessen “went really ballistic in a quite personal way at Thomas,”
a participant recalled. The group ended after Andreessen “wrote something along the lines of
‘thank you everybody, I think it’s time to take a Signal break,’” another said. The meltdown of this liberal-tech alliance was, to #Rufo, a healthy development.
“A lot of these technologists hoped that the centrist path was a viable one, because it would permit them in theory to change the culture without having to expose themselves to the risk of becoming partisans,”

‘thank you everybody, I think it’s time to take a Signal break,’” another said. The meltdown of this liberal-tech alliance was, to #Rufo, a healthy development.
“A lot of these technologists hoped that the centrist path was a viable one, because it would permit them in theory to change the culture without having to expose themselves to the risk of becoming partisans,”
he said.“By 2021, the smartest people in tech understood that these people were a dead end
— so the group chats exploded and reformulated on more explicitly political lines.”Rufo had been there all along:
“I looked at these chats as a good investment of my time to radicalize tech elites who I thought were the most likely and high-impact new coalition partners for the right.”#MarcAndreessen #LexFridman

The one person I will blame most for when our kids are fighting the combined Russian and American troops is not Elon Musk. It’s not Donald Trump. It’s not JD Vance, Marc Andreesen, Angela Merkel or Paavo Lipponen or even Joe Rogan.
It’s not. Those people were obviously in the wrong.
The one I’m saving my highest middle finger for is FUCKING LEX FRIDMAN.
Fuck you Lex. Fuck your good vibes fascist broisms. Fuck your nerd credentials. Fuck your ignorance and gullibility.
Fuck You.

I guess lex friedman bambozlezed me into thinking he was a reasonable person with that slow handsome voice of his
doesn't work in text

I don't like #LexFridman 's recent #politics, but sometimes he has a good interview (that isn't softball crap), and this is one of them.
#JimmyWales talks about #Censorship, #Government Pressure, #AI, #LLMs, & the #future of #Wikipedia & #Wikimedia.

RFK Jr. has already spewed his anti-vaxx propaganda on the #LexFridman podcast.
Tucker Carlson has already spewed his pro-Putin pro-Trump "The election was stolen" propaganda on Lex's podcast.
Balaji Srinivasan has already spewed his fascist "Network state" police state propaganda on Lex's podcast.
And of course Trump himself, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Vivek Ramaswamy, Javier Milei, and many many more.
Expect much more propaganda from Lex.

This #LexFridman podcast with #MarkAndreesen is soo hard to listen to. Andreesen is talking 3x faster than he usually does, which means youre gonna get 12 hours of #andreesen in 4 long fucking hours. If this is representative of the mental state of #techbro culture, then they are about to burst a vessel, and we just need to outlast them.

#WTF has happened to #LexFridman?
Cognitive erosion? They guy has always been a tech sychophant, but now he rambles like.... is the dude always high when he does his podcasts now? I've notices this for awhile, but #Lex has become a rambling lunatic. -
Marc Andreessen is just an egg full of magical thinking.

My reaction to Lex Fridman's Zelensky interview
by #VladVexler
33:18Vlad analyses the latest interview of President #Zelensky with podcaster #LexFridman.

Vlad Vexler is a Russian born British philosopher, studying Putin's regime and #Russia 's (and Soviet) society for decades. -
Meanwhile, popular podcasters such as #LexFridman and #AndrewHuberman still platforming that 🤬 Jordan Peterson.
But #Huberman also commented ”learned a lot“ when #Fridman let that insufferable fascist Balaji Srinivasan ramble about his totalitarian fascist ideology for 8(!) hours. (Look up ”The Network State“.)

I agree, but I can also sympathize with #LexFridman having a public #plan for #reading #books that forces one to act:
