Opal arrived at NIWRA centre in 2024 after being found with damaged feathers and reduced flight ability. In addition to her injuries, Opal has a condition called #leucism, which causes partial loss of pigmentation, making her more visible to predators, and results in weaker feather condition. I dedicate this special video to Snow White "Snowy" the Meerkat, who passed away on 31st October. As a meerkat enthusiast who spent years dreaming of meeting her in-person before finally being able to last year, the news of her death was heartbreaking. Interesting sighting a few weeks back in the #durham region of #ontario that I thought I would share here.
This #bird is a #leucistic #blackcappedchickadee
#leucism causes a lack of black pigment in the #Birds feathers.
