  1. The Men Without Monuments: A Biblical Perspective

The men remembered by monuments did not spend their lives demanding recognition. They earned it. Scripture teaches the same principle: God honors the humble and opposes the proud. In an age obsessed with self-promotion, that lesson may be more important than ever.

  6. Giving parts of Ukraine (which aren’t ours to give anyway) to russia will make the US and the world _less_ safe, not more safe.

#Trump said talks about a "very substantial" trade deal with the UK were under way.

He said a bilateral post-Brexit deal would lead to a "three to four, five times" increase in current trade

After a phone call with Boris Johnson Trump said the new prime minister would be "great for the UK" adding US-UK trade had previously been "impeded" by Britain's membership of the EU.

There was no deal, and Johnson was not great for the UK.

  11. Fascinating new research by Cage and Piketty reveals working class voters lurching to the right is not inevitable. Lots of findings are resonant here for Canada too (the left has not offered enough for rural working class, but can do so).

  12. I wonder if Victorian metallurgists felt the way many of us data folk do today?

Surely a few people must have been saying "look, I know lead is super easy to work with, and makes plumbing a doddle, but, uhh, its poisonous. This isn't going to end well..."
