Did a new Alzheimer's drug keep this patient's brain healthier for longer?
New drugs Leqembi and Kisunla may have a modest benefit, don't cure #Alzheimer's, have a host of side effects (including brain bleeds), are troublesome to use (require IV infusion or injection) and multiple brain scans and cost 10's of thousands to administer.

The United States, Israel, and several Asian countries have approved #Leqembi, but on 26 July the European Medicines Agency announced its benefit in clinical trials was small and does not counterbalance the risk of serious harm. The decision comes weeks after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a second antiamyloid antibody with a similar profile, #donanemab, and as Leqembi’s popularity is growing in the United States.Science, 2 August 2024

Donanemab, made by Eli #Lilly, can modestly slow the progression of memory and thinking problems in early stages of #Alzheimer’s, and that the slowing was greatest for early-stage patients
For people at that earlier stage, #donanemab appeared to slow decline in memory and thinking by about four and a half to seven and a half months over an 18-month period
