A new study of about 80 individuals finds that metabolic disorder, as indicated by insulin and leptin resistance, are linked to decreases in memory, attention, and executive function in those with bipolar disorder.

My bet is on Jeffrey M. Friedman & Rudolph Leibel for their discovery of #leptin, a hormone that has a role in #obesity.
(I would LIKE the prize to go to the team that developed the endobronchial valve, a minimally invasive device that is used to divert air from diseased portions of the lung to healthier ones. It's used by COPD & tuberculosis patients.)

I'm perpetually interested in #sex and #gender in the animal kingdom, and currently #sex-differences are part of my work. (This is partly personal—I am #queer and #GNC — and partly just that I'm fascinated by choices and decisions, and how we all cope with trade offs and restraints.)
I've worked on #leptin in the past and would like to revisit that, and I'm looking forward to hanging with my #neuroendocrinology friends at #SICB this winter.
