Gabriel Jogund-Pages, born in 1854, published a series of books called "Revelations of French Masonry" under the pseudonym "Leo Taxil" after claiming conversion to the Roman Catholic faith. One work accused all Masons of being murderers - in spirit if not fact - and sold two hundred thousand copies.
He later admitted that his works were a hoax and that he had never converted.
