Today is Aldo Leopold’s birthday. He wrote ‘Sand County Almanac’ and influenced the restoration of praire and woodlands in the UW-Arboretum. These lands were important not only to him, yet also the mound-building people who made pilgrimages to these unique lakes in pre-Colombian America.

I have become so used to "tenkeyless" boards that full keyboards just feel too wide to me. My main Mac, the Studio, is setup with a Leopold FC660M, which is a 66-key shorter-than-"tenkeyless" board, which I love.

A book in #India and also in #Kashmir published by the government of India for 6th graders just mentioned #Khomeini one of the most evil persons in history.
People I n Kashmir and some other parts of India have been protesting while carrying the pictures of #Khomeini.It's just sad to see these people are more upset about a provocation by the Indian government to put Khomeini by the side of people like Hitler or Gingiz Khan. He was an evil man, no doubt about it, but in the global terms he wouldn't even get close to monsters like #Kissinger or king #Leopold.
These same people have been so damn quiet about the ongoing #genocide in #Gaza or #Sudan

In 2017, the special issue of the #British #magazine The #Economist #announced on the cover that the most valuable resource was now data. This echoed the phrase “data is the new oil”, formulated in 2006 by data scientist Clive Humby.In 2018 James Bridle clarified that data is not the new oil but the new nuclear energy in that it is unlimited and in its capacity to cause harm (1) .
In fact, since the 1960s, the following terms have come and gone at a rapid pace: data base, datawarehouse, databank, datamining, datamart, data store, big data, data lake, dataset, all #Anglo-Saxon sounding terms with sometimes more or less successful attempts at translations into other languages.
But since the dawn of time, data has been the basis of #communication and the transmission of #knowledge between #humans, which evolved in four stages, oral, written, printed and digital.
Africa?
The African enjoys less of the advantages of being connected to the rest of the world than he suffers the #disadvantages. On a #cultural level, today's young African is likely to know more about the #British #Empire than about the Empire of #Ghana. He is more likely to have heard of #Napoleon #Bonaparte than of #Sundiata #Keita, the founding king of the great empire of #Mali. He will certainly have heard of #Elon #Musk as the richest man on the planet, but not of Mansa Musa, king of Mali in 1312 and probably the richest man who ever lived. And if he heard of #Léopold #Cedar #Senghor or #Félix #Houphouët-Boigny it will surely be thanks to the #Western #Media Through their prism.

Craziness. On our trip to Memphis last week, we wandered into this quaint little boutique in midtown called The Wren's Nest. My wife and daughter set about trying on French dresses and such, while I wandered about idly, trying to entertain myself.
As I poked about the shelves, I came upon a display of four extreme-level custom keyboards and I've never found such an out of place treasure, completely out of the blue!

I got a #Leopold FC980C for my bday bc I wanted to see what #Topre switches were like. It was specifically ordered from a Korean importer bc I wanted 한글 #keycaps. The switches sound great, though I wish it had 45g vs 30g actuation force. I tend to rest my hands on the home row and I've unintentionally inserted characters into docs I'm reading a lot. The #pbt keycaps feel wonderful, but they're black-on-black which defeats the purpose of using this keyboard to better my 한글 typing proficiency.
