  6. Here our observation of stellar #occultation #Betelgeuse by asteroid (319) #Leona on 2023 Dec 12, observed from #Makroskooppi remote observatory in Fregenal de la Sierra, Spain. Occultation lasted about 7 seconds, which is less than predicted 11.6 seconds in central path. Our observatory's position was a bit north of central occultation path at N 38⁰ 13′ 10.89″ – W 6⁰ 37′ 54.32″ – 560m.

What he saw in H-Alpha: twitter.com/aschweiz77/status/. And two video clips from elsewhere with the slight dimming discernible: twitter.com/ElbesoenlaLuna/sta and twitter.com/geologoenapuros/st. Yes, sorry, so it was X FTW again tonight ... as (still) always when dramatic things happen in the sky. The sheer number of users over there makes the difference.

  23. Please be advised that on 2023 December 12, observers in a swath going from north of Guadalajara all the way over to southern Xinjiang will see #Betelgeuse sharply fade or disappear for ~12 seconds: google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1.

    This will just be the asteroid #Leona getting in the way.

    For anyone watching from #Miami, the occultation will be shortly after twilight on December 11. Observers much further west will have to try to see the star through bright sky.
