  2. Aller jusque sur #Naboo pour observer l'occultation de #Betelgeuse par #Leona...

We went as far as Naboo to observe the occulation of Betelgeuse by Leona...

  3. In the chat of the Zoom stream from #ESOP 42 an interesting discussion arose regarding the position of #Betelgeuse in the sky, essential for placing telescopes for the December occultation by asteroid #Leona. Because the star is waaay too bright for Gaia one has to rely on Hipparcos and radio observations, brought together in the widely used paper iopscience.iop.org/article/10. from 2017 - but there are problems and we know Betelgeuze's current sky position only with some 10 milliarcsec precision.

  4. At astrode.de/esop23a.htm and the following pages ("Weiter") you find the #ESOP 42 slides by Bernd Gährken who talked about some funny ideas to observe the #Betelgeuse occultation by #Leona - like with tricky filters or broken lenses ... or putting skin creme on good ones.

  5. An update about the star #occultation by asteroid #Leona on 13 September was just given at the #ESOP 42 conference in #Armagh: chords were observed successfully from 17 (!) different sites in Spain, and a paper about what was learned will become available early next week! More sites than expected saw the star disappear (e.g. Calar Alto was expected to miss it but didn't), so Leona seems to be bigger than thought - but whether it will cover #Betelgeuse completely in December is still not clear.
