  6. “Our #music was #rock oriented, but [Return to Forever] played phrases that were totally different from everybody else. Everyone else played the rock way, either using only one chord or a progression … we played phrases.”- #LennyWhite

We explore White’s work with #Santana, #Azteca, #GatoBarbieri, #ReturnToForever, #jacoPastorius, his trio with Larry Coryell and Victor Bailey, how he almost ended up in the rock band Journey, and more.

  11. @DaveG924 @Kliked

Great little story about the #RedClay sessions - 20 year old #LennyWhite brings his "oil can bass drum" (that he used on the Bitches Brew sessions) to #RudyVanGelder 's studio, & the drum sound is just not working. After a couple hours, nerves are fraying & #RonCarter has to take Lenny outside to talk some sense to him. They go back in & #RVG pulls out an old 26" bass drum from storage that ends up being used on this legendary recording.

  14. Now playing - from the #vinyl collection - “Red Clay” by Freddie Hubbard with Joe Henderson, #HerbieHancock, Ron Carter, #LennyWhite. Because I had (have?) no idea who this is. Going thru my late husband’s collection is so meaningful, to continue to discover him. His pinned tweet at the other site was “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is #music.” It was his life.
