In addition to being home to lots of #lemurs, #Madagascar also has a ton of rare #bird species! The Coua spends most of its time on the ground, and this giant coua (Coua gigas) was very interested in our group when we visited Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park!

We visited Namaza canyon at Isalo National Park yesterday, hiking to the Cascade des Nymphs in search of wildlife and scenery.

We timed our visit to meet the ringtail #lemurs descending from caves to the forest, stopping at this river for a drink of water.

This little red-fronted brown #lemur female surprised us in camp, looking for fruit. They absolutely don’t feed the #lemurs but she was persistent, grunting her “stay away” warning the whole time. They said she hadn’t done this before! #Madagascar

This ringtail #lemur troop was large - we counted at least 18 members! How many do you see in the trees? Look for the tails (it's what they do).

Anja is entirely community owned and managed and has grown to about 600 #lemurs in the last decade!

A low rank male #lemur usually keeps watch behind the troop of ringtail #lemurs, making sure they stay together and are not being followed by a fossa or eagle!

Each troop of maki (as the Malagasy people call ringtail #lemurs) is lead by a dominant female, who will likely give birth in a few months

A Devon wildlife charity is celebrating the birth of four critically endangered red-ruffed lemurs. Shaldon Wildlife Trust in the UK welcomed quadruplets, saying they represented a significant milestone for a European breeding programme. While twins are common for this species, quadruplets are an incredible rarity, occurring in fewer than 6% of births worldwide.

Madagascar: Reforestation Corridor Offers a Future for Lemurs and Locals
