It's been a productive day off from work! I took the Ford Mustang GT3 for a spin and got reacquainted with the Algarve Circuit in LMU's online beginner lobbies. Haven't been there since I used to play on GRID Autosport or Project CARS 2. Climbed up to Bronze 2 in safety rating!
-
Tonight's race was on one of my favorite tracks, Spa-Francorchamps! Thanks @Davidjackson for the heads up.
I qualified P15, started from the pitlanes to avoid race start craziness and I finished the race P12.
Maybe it was the group of people that I raced with or maybe it is the track, but there were far less DNFs and incidents in this race. That's good.
My Safety Rank continues to increase. I'm almost into Silver.
-
It was a good morning of racing at Monza.
First race: Qualified P17, Finished P9.
Second race: Qualified P18, Finished P8.
The second race had a twist. In the third or fourth lap, someone took out *all* the distance boards on the lefthand side before the first turn. Apparently, everyone, including myself, rely on those distance boards for determining their braking point.
The first time I came down the straight screaming at redline in sixth gear, I subconsciously was looking for the boards, didn't see them and went right through the runoff area.
Constantly over the radio for the rest of the race were reports of Yellow Flags in sector one as people continued to miss their braking points.
I eventually found a dude in an orange vest behind the barriers to use a braking point. Ha.
-
I continue my journey to improve my Safety Rank in Le Mans Ultimate, but because I have been racing on Monza so much lately, I am definitely getting more confident and faster on the track without worrying about going off track.
I qualified P15 and finished the race P5 (my third Top 5 result in 15 races) after starting from the pit lane to avoid any Turn One Carnage.
My Safety Rank increased from Bronze 1 to Bronze 2 after this race. Yay!
I was having a super clean race until some person, who was a lap behind, decided to get super aggressive in Turn 10 on the penultimate lap.
They side swiped me pretty hard, but I was able to keep my car on the road. They got a big can of whoop ass from Karma though. They spun out like a top and it looks like didn't recover well.
A short of the incident:

I'm so happy I am increasing my Safety Rank -- and tonight I also increased my Driver Rank because I did so well in the race. I may not be the fastest driver, but I keep it safe and avoid incidents that could take me out of a race.

Some photos from tonight's race at Monza.

It's been a Monza week with Le Mans Ultimate Daily Races. I am not complaining though since I really like this track.
I qualified P12 and then started the race from the pit lanes (I finally figured out how to do that) to avoid the formation lap and Turn 1 incidents. It worked out great as I had no incidents in the race!
Today I drove quite a bit faster and it felt great to really race. I had a lot of fun.
-
This is the carnage in Monza's T1 that got me from P13 to P8 instantaneously.
-
I had two races on Monza tonight in Le Mans Ultimate. I continue to chase raising my Safety Rating and I continue to have results in the Top 10 while driving super safe.
My first race did not bag me as much SR as I wanted, mainly because of unsavory other drivers rear ending me multiple times at the start.
My second race I had qualified P13, I let the whole pack pass me by and by the time they hit Turn 1, the carnage had already taken out enough people that I was P8.
I continued to drive consistently and further carnage from other drivers got me my second Top 5 finish! Yay!

So this happened to me in a Le Mans Ultimate online practice session in tonight. The pit crew was real busy rebuilding my car after that incident!
-
Tonight I raced in Le Mans Ultimate. The race was on the awesome Monza track and there were 20 racers.
My aim tonight was to increase my Safety Rating so that I can get into races with people who race more clean than those in the starter SR ranks.
The way to increase SR in LMU is to keep the car on the track, not hit anything and put in clean laps in both the qualifying and race. The first part being the most important. If at any point the car leaves the track, the SR increases stop for the race.
I qualified with a slower than normal pace, got clean laps and some how qualified P14. For the race, I dialed it back a lot so that I didn't accidentally go off track.
When the race started, I was P14 and knew that on Monza the first turn is where carnage happens. I slowed way down after the lights turned green on the rolling start. I let everyone by and just as I expected there was carnage in Turn 1 and Turn 2. I avoided it all.
Throughout the race there were all sorts of incidents, some that happened in front of me and instead of powering through, I slowed down and navigated around them carefully.
With all the carnage throughout the race and my boring, slow and careful driving, I still ended up finishing the race P7. My SR went up and even my Driver Rank went up. Incredible!

Ooph tonight's racing was a real bust.
I finished my 10th race on https://lowfuelmotorsport.com expecting to be out of the Rookie class. But, I discovered that I needed 10 ranked races. LFM defines a ranked race as one with eight or more racers.
I only have one ranked race out of my ten because there is barely anyone racing in LFM, so I usually find races with between 3-5 racers. At this rate, there's no way I'll ever get out of Rookie. I'm giving up on doing much racing in LFM, I'll still swing by from time-to-time, but it's really demotivating to have no path out of Rookie.
I tried iRacing next, except that iRacing experienced "network errors" while I was trying to race on Monza and booted me. My network was fine for the LFM race and for the next race I did...
I went into Le Mans Ultimate and did a race in Bahrain. The race was super frustrating because LMU racers have no incentive to really drive safely because when someone hits another person, both people get penalized for the hit. It's unfair.
I got knocked out of position by someone behind me as I slowed for Turn 1 -- and then I got penalized along with that person.
All around not a good night of racing. The one bright spot was that the earlier race in LFM had five racers, I qualified P4 and ended up P3 on podium by the end of the race because two racers crashed out.
I am 97 hours into Automobilista 2, the screenshot shows my Favorites.

YES! HUGE NEWS! #TrackIR support is slated to come to #LeMansUltimate in the #ELMS update! That means that I will be able to use the head tracking features of my #Tobii 4C in the game! Will it help me spot Hypercars barreling up my tailpipe on the straight? Absoluetely not because they're too fast! But it's gonna be cool nonetheless. :carby:

I raced at the Interlagos Circuit tonight in my Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3. I played around with the free camera system afterwards and took some snapshots.

Second race of the night was in Le Mans Ultimate. I did a 20 minute race online at Monza.
I qualified P12 and had two incidents in the race where I lost positions -- falling back as far as P14. But, I raced consistently and fought my way back to P8 by the end of the race.
There was one incident in lap 6 where a dude behind me was not paying attention at the second Lesmo curve, he rear-ended my car pretty hard. Annoying.
But, I am still super happy that I finished in the Top 10.
-
I'm really enjoying Le Mans Ultimate. Are the physics realistic? I have no idea, I wish I could own and race one of the cars featured in this game -- like the Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3 -- but I have kids to put through college. Heh. There are GT drivers that have played this game and they report that it's close to real life.
I am finding the AI in the game a bit blind -- rear ending me multiple times in a race and causes me to scream at my TV. Heh.
-
Well would you look at that, I came in fifth! Top 5 baby!
This race was crazy though, my computer decided to stop sending sound to my TV, so the start of the race I was trying to race without sound -- very hard since I couldn't hear the gears. There was a huge pile up at the start -- I didn't cause it, but was part of it. That's why my Safety Rate went down.
I took the time to get the sound going again, I had to visit the pits for repairs and then I just concentrated on finishing the race. I'm glad I did.
-
I just finished another online race in Le Mans Ultimate. In a field of 20, I qualified P14 and finished the race in P12.
I'm a solid mid-fielder, yay!
I still have a lot to learn about racing. I am becoming more consistent and not spinning out, I need to learn to be faster, use more of the road and get the car to its limits.
-
I signed up for iRacing today. I did 20 minutes of practice and then hopped into a ranked race to see what it was like.
It's not as crazy as I've seen on YouTube and it was a decent experience except for when someone divebombed and spun me out.
I'll race in iRacing along with Le Mans Ultimate for online racing. iRacing has a nice variety to online races. Le Mans Ultimate has better driving physics and feel.
Automobilista 2 will be my main game though. I like racing against the computer more and I really like Automobilista 2's driving physics and handling.

A five minute race at Spa-Francorchamps.
The number 10 car, whose bumper I staring at most of the race, was a right bastard. 😁 What he did at the end of lap 2 and also at the bus stop in lap 3 were meh. His Aston Martin definitely had more straight-line speed than my Lexus.
Still, I started P5 and finished P4 with no spinning out.

I tried my best to drive safely to increase my safety rating. It meant driving a little slower and also being anxious every time some other car gets close to me -- for human drivers are crazy unpredictable.
I qualified P15 and because of crazy human drivers crashing, spinning out and DNF'ing, I ended the race P15 even while driving slower. Nice.
I am proud that I did not spin out. Late in the race I did brush a wall briefly at La Source because I lost focus and was staring at the timing board. Heh.

This thumbnail is the best. I’m actually not the car being t-boned or t-boning. I’m the car behind the one getting t-boned trying to avoid the incident. My rear wing is showing.

A quick five minute race in Le Mans Ultimate at COTA in my Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3. It was an exciting race because of the AI.
The AI in Le Mans Ultimate is natural, makes minor mistakes and fun to race again -- they are challenging and I should up the difficulty for more challenge.
It was fun fighting through the crowd.

I used a Steam gift card that my kids gave me for my birthday to help buy Le Mans Ultimate. I practiced for a bit and then tried an online race which was super hard. LMU is an intense game. My son tried an offline 10-minute race and he agrees.
After that, I did a 10-minute race in Automobilista 2 with 47 other AI racers. I started in the back of the pack and got all the way up into the teens before making a few mistakes and ending up in the back of the pack again. I eventually worked my way back to P28.
I tried to race as cleanly as possible, but accidents happen.
