Many beautiful scientific theories and discoveries have come to us in recent centuries, from the periodic table to the theory of evolution, from relativity to DNA. The idea that our universe was once in one point remains the most special for me. (Spotting then called the 'Big Bang') And we all know who that came from.. do we?

A video recording of a 1964 interview of Georges #Lemaître - thought to have been lost - has recently been recovered. This footage represents a unique insight into the views of the physicist often coined as the "father of the Big Bang". De VRT heeft in haar archief een verloren gewaand interview teruggevonden met Georges Lemaître. De Leuvense kosmoloog was in de jaren 20 en 30 van de vorige eeuw grondlegger van de theorie van de oerknal. Hij is daarover in 1964 geïnterviewd voor de toenmalige BRT, maar tot voor kort dacht men dat daar enkel een kort fragment van was bewaard. Nu is het hele interview van 20 minuten teruggevonden. "Een pareltje", zegt kosmoloog Thomas Hertog.
