Didn't sleep well last night but I've still been fairly productive this morning.
I've tidied the kitchen and sorted out the bags in the front garden that had the tomatoes in them.

The postman brought my London - Floris - London tee shirt!

He also brought a thumb brace I ordered on Sunday - not so useful though now my thumb is healing but already I can feel the benefit.

In other long distance cycling news there will probably be only be one finisher of LEL this year, Ian McBride, who outran the storm and is the only person who reached the Dalkeith control before the the decision was made to close the northern section due to bad weather. Quite a ride and he’s had solo attention at each control so it’ll be a shock to the system going South (everyone has been advised to ride from the control they’ve been held South if they want to continue).

Henri Desgrange would be delighted ;-)

#LEL2025 has had the plug pulled. Absolutely the right decision for safety, but gutted for the riders. Only one dot made it to Dalkeith, although there might be others who weren't using trackers. #StormFloris

@ravenbait Lots of riders at Northstowe yesterday were trying to get ahead of the storm by riding as hard and fast as possible. A minority seemed to be thinking of 'sleeping through' the worst of the weather.
It was a constant source of conversation among the Europeans, the (huge numbers of) Japanese & Indian riders seemed blissfully unaware of what might be coming.

I've had the email this morning to confirm that I'm volunteering at Northstowe for a day for #LEL2025

Previously I've done full weeks at Boston & Spalding but can't hack a full week any longer, but it's super exciting to be involved again.

For those outside the #Audax bubble it's an international cycling event that lasts about a week - cycling the 1540km nominally from London to Edinburgh & back although most riders will start from Writtle College near Chelmsford.
Riders & volunteers come from all over the world to get involved.
It is not a race, but riders have a maximum of around 128 hours to cycle along the route up to Edinburgh and then back to London.
Riders must pass through 21 control points (at 14 different venues) along the route where there are meals, dormitories, and basic mechanical support. Support vehicles are prohibited this time around.

Despite my protestations last time I've volunteered for the 2025 London Edinburgh London bike ride again - this time for one of the Essex / Cambridgeshire controls.

If you can't / won't ride #LEL then volunteering is probably the next best thing (but don't think it's easier).
