With these street shots, I made a point to try and get closer to my subjects. It's a bit intimidating because for the shot to be candid, you need to try and not draw attention, but there's always a chance of someone noticing you and getting in your face about it. Something I've tried is to camp in a spot, prefocus, and wait for my subject to come to me. I'm still taking shots where I stop and take the photo as I walk past as well, but it's a little more difficult to focus that way. I'm […]

Portland MAX and Downtown

One of the things I like best about living in Portland is having a pretty good light rail system, called the MAX. It's especially convenient for me since the MAX yellow line gets on about a seven-minute walk from my house and from there takes roughly twenty minutes to get downtown. SE Foster Photo Walk

Last Tuesday, I had an errand to run on SE Foster and decided to take a walk up the street and photograph whatever caught my eye. Foster feels like it's in a transitional period, a lot like Division did about a decade ago. There's still a lot of “Old Portland” going on — dive bars, diners, industrial buildings — but also signs of gentrification, like a new 5-over-1 apartment building with a board game cafe on the first floor.

Concert Photos from Haymaker Bar

This last Friday I went and took photos at my friends Joe and Jackson's show at Haymaker Bar here in Portland, Oregon. They were all shot with my Leica M2 on Kodak T-MAX p3200 pushed to 6400 and developed with Kodak HC-110. I'd like to do more of these. I'm wondering maybe if I do a few of my friends shows for free to build up a little portfolio if eventually I could charge a little bit and maybe cover my film habit?

Self Portraits

Just some photos of me sitting in my room in front of the camera. I used the self-timer on the Leica M2 and then just sat in front of the camera. The surprising thing about these for me is that I managed to nail the focus while having a relatively shallow depth of field, since I just estimated the distance instead of using the rangefinder.

A Few Photos with the M2

Tomorrow I should be getting back the Leica M2 and lenses I my dad gave me a couple of weeks ago from Red Dot Repair. I took some photos with it before, and unfortunately between the 50mm Summicron having a bit of haze and something going wrong at the film lab which resulted in the roll being basically ruined, there weren’t too many that were salvageable.
