My Mom just picked up my new high-school diploma. 😊
It sadly says “Neuausstellung für das Original-Abiturzeugnis vom 31. Mai 2011” (≈that it is a reprint) at the top, but other than that, this really means that the only remaining documents that I have to replace for my #legalTransition are my university degrees (bachelor and master of computer science). Other than that I think I’m actually done with everything that I really want to bother with! 😊

So, I just received an email from my bank that they need both sides of my identification document and therefore set up a request to do it with the functionality in the app, which I completed just now.
If that’s all it takes and they will now change it, I’ll be reasonably chill about it. Making sure that it is really me who makes that request is what I would consider fair. Ideally they should also do it before it changes legally, but since I didn’t ask back then, that’s purely hypothetical in my case and I won’t hold it against them.
Now if they make further issues, and it’s not just bureaucratic stuff that’s easy to perform and can be done quickly, I may change my opinion, but so far it looks like I’ll still be fine with staying there.
And for the record, since I like to employ a name and shame or praise policy: I’m with Rabobank.

Just sent my bank an email with a copy of the front of my driver’s license; let’s see how much trouble they make with regards to changing those data.
(I tried to use the chat in their app. Initially they had a chatbot that had no fucking clue whatsoever on the topic, so I quickly told it that I want to talk to a human, which he understood. That human then told me to send them an email with proof, so let’s see how that goes…)

And now I finally have my new ID! 😊
The only remaining steps at this point are replacing my university and high school diplomas and telling my bank, neither of which has high priority right now. ☺️
(My bank uses initials everywhere, and those didn't change, so it doesn't affect anything in practice. Still: It might be useful to get this over with as well.)

Soo...
After learning this morning that I need a blood test by Friday morning and that it has to be taken in Rotterdam, I'm now done with that...
Perfectly in time to take a detour through Amsterdam on the way back and pick up my ID...
Since this effectively saves me one half-Trip (essentially combining my trips from Rotterdam and to Amsterdam), I guess this means that I complete my #legaltransition today...

And with that I now have a passport in my actual name and as a bonus the “Dr.” being listed (though they’ve really hidden that one away at this point).
It’s not quite as big of a milestone as when my name actually changed, but it is more a feeling of this now really being the beginning of the end of my #legaltransition.
The photo on it is ghastly though (made to meet both Dutch and German regulations so I could use it on both documents and maybe I shouldn’t have done it that way.
Anyways, I can now proof under all necessary circumstances with a proper identity document that every country on Earth will accept, that I am who I am and that that even includes being a doctor. 😊
(I might post a picture later, but first I’ll have to take one and censor it.)

@[email protected] Looks like it, though technically you still have a chance with my actual ID, beause that one will take a few more weeks.
(Yes, we have separate driver’s license, passport and ID here, though the passport is also a valid ID, but less convenient to carry and I like to have both; driver’s license is separate and country dependent: The German one is never an identity document, whereas the Dutch one that I now have is one, but only in the Netherlands, not in any other (even EU) country.)
But yeah, after this it’s pretty much just down to getting new high school and university diplomas and since my PhD is already on my new name, it’s not like that is super critical.
Once those are done, I believe I will actually have completed my #LegalTransition. 😊
Anyways, good luck with your own! -
In other news I just received an email from the general consulate in Amsterdam that my passport is ready for pick-up and an okay from my boss that I can go there tomorrow and do so. 😊

This also has a consequence for my #legaltransition: Because I got to request my new passport so close to the defense, and because you can add a doctoral degree to your passport and ID in Germany, I’ve actually elected to put that request on hold until I have my certificate. Which I received right at the end of the defense and submitted before we even went to eat. So with this I should be able to pick up my passport in 2 to 4 weeks in Amsterdam. 😊

I now have a driver's license on my actual name. ☺️

There still seem to be some issues with getting the teams-link for my #PhDDefense working…
On the other hand I just received news that I can pick up my new driver’s license at the city hall. So I will finally have some form of identity document with my actual name on it. 😊

Back from the general consulate to order a new passport and ID. It’s still going to take a while but there is one piece of unexpected good news:
I was able to request the new documents with PhD and just have them on hold until I send them my certificate by e-mail. Since I have my defense next Monday, this will just come down to a six, maybe seven, day delay but will in exchange have a note in my documents that I have a PhD.
Now for context: This is an almost exclusively German thing that comes with some de facto perks, that shouldn’t exist but very much did: By several accounts it causes you to be taken more seriously by medical professionals, has simplified border-crossings in the past and similar things. Now some of that may be lost at this point, because they moved it to the back of the ID, making it far less obvious, but in turn eliminating the confusion that some peopl have had to deal with when border agents in other countries didn’t understand the concept and caused more trouble.
So I guess they eliminated the issues at the cost of reducing the perks (that shouldn’t exist in a functional society, but do). 🤷

Back from the city hall to request a new driver’s license. I was told before that I would definitely have to have an updated ID beforehand. Turns out that was not the case. I just said I had a name-change and that the data in their registers are correctly updated and they were just super chill about it.
I should be able to pick up my new one in 2-4 weeks, they did keep my old one however and gave me a piece of paper for the time being.
Now this needs some context for non-Dutch people, and in different directions:
For everyone from Germany: A Dutch driver’s license is kinda a lesser ID, which is in almost all circumstances sufficient for identification purposes, meaning that you don’t need to carry your actual ID or passport with you.
For everyone from the US: A Dutch driver’s license is not a full-fletched ID like a US-one is and very importantly not valid outside the Netherlands (aka not valid in other EU-countries, like a real ID would be). So I still need to get an actual German ID (and passport), because that is the “proper” document that will actually get accepted EVERYWHERE.

And now my name is officially changed in the Netherlands as well, meaning that it (and my gender) have now been updated in the “Basisregistratie Personen” (BRP), from which a lot of places, very notably almost everyone in the healthcare system is pulling their data. 😊
It will still take a while before it is updated with all my care providers (upto 24h), but this is now actually a thing! 😊
-
I now got appintments in January to update my legal data with the Dutch government (on the 8th) and to request a new driver’s license (on the 14th) so that I have at least one document with my actual name and a hopefully not too awful looking foto on it that is at least in the Netherlands accepted as a legal document.
My much earlier requested appointment with the German consulate to replace my actual ID and my passport is only on the 28th and they will definitely take some time to actually get those documents to me…

Here the video, which I took at 00:25 last night after @Senna and me arrived at my place after a local trans meetup (TG040) and I found the letter in the mailbox.
CN for video: eye contact
The only really new private information that this video contains about me is my place of birth (Garmisch-Partenkirchen), other than that all of the information in this video can be found elsewhere on this account. I consider this acceptable leakage. (I should have censored all the frames where anything about my address that’s more concrete than “Eindhoven” isn’t way to blurry to read; if you find that this is not the case, please send me a DM)

I just received my new birth-certificates as well as a document that states that my name has been changed retroactively since the 25th of November! 😊
I took an #unboxing video and may post that at some point once I censor some details in it.

I just received an AMAZING Email!
I am now legally a woman and my name is officially Fiona Johanna Weber! 😊

The Standesamt Garmisch just called me back about my name-change, letting me know that they are somewhat pissed at their oversight bodies for completely failing them to inform them about everything and that they seemingly know even less about the procedure than me at this point, having had to search for basic information on the web.
Generally speaking that seems like a good attitude to work with, because they seem fully supportive of my side. For now we agreed that I would send them my application tomorrow together with a copy of my ID via E-Mail and they will let me know whether this is enough or whether I have to send it via post.
So in short: The higher tiers in the government are clueless as so often, but the lower tiers seem supportive, which is usually MUCH better than the other way around.

The German parliament will discuss and vote on the self-determination law for trans people today starting at 13:20 (https://www.bundestag.de/dokumente/textarchiv/2024/kw15-de-geschlechtseintrag-997406).
While the law is a massive improvement over the current situation, it is also filled with distrust and far from what it should have been. Of course this won’t stop the nazis and their conservative buddies to spew hatred and claim that it should be even stricter.
So I don’t think that I’ll watch the debate, because it will most likely be just vile shit that would raise my blood pressure and make me want to enact violence against nazis, but if this passes (which realistically speaking there is no way it won’t) it would indeed be nice.

Now the annoying thing of doing all of this as a German foreigner in the Netherlands is, that I am not sure how well all of that stuff maps to the German rules that are currently still relevant to legally change my gender and name if I still want to do it under the old #TSG, before they introduce the Self-Determination Law later this year. (The TSG is overall much worse, but if you do meet the requirements of it anyways, there are some advantages to using it rather than the upcoming replacement.)
Does Anyone here have experience with how this works?
Anyways, The good news is that I am definitely a step closer to being #OfficiallyTrans now.
