I put Left 4 Dead 2 on 4th place of my favorite games of all times list which always surprises my future self.

It always makes me think "Does it really deserve that place?" and I remember the best moments I had with it and yes it deserves that place.

I find it interesting how the Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns are considered having more atmosphere than the ones in 2 because I absolutely can't agree with that.

Now, the Left 4 Dead games aren't really something I find atmospheric to begin with but the two campaigns that I do find having it are not from the first one. It's Dead Center and The Parish, both from L4D2.

Back in like 2008/2009, I got in with some guys that were porting over left 4 dead 1 campaign missions for L4D2. I had "unlimited" hosting back then so I offered to host the packs for SDG Heartless. Cool guy btw

A few days later the guy running the hosting company had to shut his stuff down because he couldn't pay for bandwidth because someone ate through 8TB within a few days time. 👀

I moved stuff to a new provider and was the main host the ported campaigns for quite a long time. Eventually Valve released the L4D campaigns with a new one for both games, but I'm still satisfied that I was likely a contributor for them to do that.

I'm trying to get a Left 4 Dead 2 server set up on an old computer I got, and it is being a pain...

Since I only use it with friends, I made a steam group and made the server exclusively serve that steam group.

It was spotty sometimes, but worked somewhat at one point. Then I guess I changed some settings, added plugins to sourcemod, and now it doesn't work...

Lobby reservation seems to be the culprit. I can connect to the server using the dev console, and by choosing the steam group server, however when I try to join using a lobby, the server seems to crash or restart. At that point, client-side, it seems to load for a while before saying there were no servers available.

After that, I can't join the server using the steam group option on the front page, and doing `status` on the server-side console shows "hibernating" and "reserved". After a couple minutes, it's no longer reserved and I can try again.

Just spent an hour and a half playing some Left 4 Dead 2 with my youngest brother.

We've been slowly making our way through it since I got my Steam Deck two Christmases ago.

He'll sit at his desktop PC and I'll sit beside him using my Steam Deck.

And we'll swear, a lot, even though we're only playing on easy. Curse the AI players plenty.

Finally started on the original game's campaigns. Got through No Mercy and Crash Course.

No Mercy took two attempts on final level.
