Question for the fediverse: what (in your opinion) is the best cooperative video game of all time?

I put forth 2009's Left 4 Dead 2, a game that refined the previous year's formula to make one of the best zombie games of all time. Additional special infected eliminated some more degenerate player behaviors, more variety in the maps improved replayability, and additional weapons gave the game just that additional bit more variety to it all.

Of course, I do prefer the overall atmosphere of the Left 4 Dead 1 maps, and some additions to Left 4 Dead 2 seem more variety-for-the-sake-of-variety than actually introducing interesting gameplay, but it's without a doubt the better option to play.

Coming up on 17 (!) years later, Left 4 Dead 2 feels antiquated in some ways: no customization, leveling up, perks, etc. I think the game is better for it: you can just jump in and go at it, getting straight to the fun.

(This was definitely prompted by getting to play Left 4 Dead 2 at a LAN party recently, and falling back in love with the game. 😆)

Because apparently I'm not a very logical person, I decided to try out #ZorinOS. Here's how it's going:

I installed it as a dual-boot together with a #Win10 install. It worked!

Unfortunately internet wasn't working on it, it seems that my WiFi card wasn't recognised. According to the online gods I needed to connect via Ethernet to try and download the WiFi drivers that way. After buying an Ethernet cable I did that and it worked!

Now I'm trying to see if I can play some games on it. I followed the Zorin instructions for this and managed to install Steam (had to use command line once). I've downloaded #TombRaider4 and tried to start it. It didn't work. Then I checked which games were actually Linux-compatible and installed #Left4Dead (2) . I'm going to try it out now...

Do you think it will work??

I find it interesting how the Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns are considered having more atmosphere than the ones in 2 because I absolutely can't agree with that.

Now, the Left 4 Dead games aren't really something I find atmospheric to begin with but the two campaigns that I do find having it are not from the first one. It's Dead Center and The Parish, both from L4D2.

gets rid of the toxic ammo stockpiling behavior that sometimes goes on in that kind of game

If you're a #GameDev how about NOT adding character stats and development to your zombie shooter? Seriously, go play #Left4Dead. No one, NO 👏 ONE 👏 has ever made a better zombie game.

No crafting. No character customisation, none of that - just an insanely good AI system for randomising zombie events, which means you can keep playing the same map over, and over, and it's always fresh and new.
