Hij is getrouwd, heeft drie kinderen en zes kleinkinderen. En dat terwijl Leen Gijse (73) door een nieraandoening eigenlijk maar 3 jaar oud zou worden. Waar een transplantatienier normaal gesproken maar maximaal 25 jaar meegaat, leeft Leen al 50 jaar met zijn 'nieuwe' nier. "De nierfunctie is nog perfect."
