Wow. I knew about the remarkable Lee Miller and her photography, but I did not know about her equally remarkable brother John Miller / Felicity Chandelle.

John's presumed last words, "I guess my flying days are over", may or may not have been spoken, but if he did say them, then his exit from this world had as much flourish and style as his roof landings. :-)

Your friend has quite a set of grandparents and grand-aunts!

Born this day in 1907, Lee Miller. Miller was a photographer and photojournalist. She had been a fashion model in the 1920's before going to Paris to be a fashion and fine art photographer. She was a WWII correspondent for Vogue. This image, taken by David E. Scherman in Hitler's private apartment in Munich on April 30, 1945. (The same day Hitler committed suicide.) Her boots carried the dust of Dachau, deliberately dirtying Hitler's bathroom.

@AnjaWeinberger Den Film habe ich gesehen, aber noch mehr beeindruckt hatte mich vor 10 Jahren eine Lee Miller Ausstellung im Gropius-Bau in Berlin: März 2016.

Wenn ich mich richtig erinnere, zeigte die Ausstellung noch mehr Phasen und Facetten ihrer Entwicklung und ihres Schaffens als der Film.

Danach war die Austellung in Hamburg im Bucerius-Kunst-Forum zu sehen.

Vielleicht erinnert sich ja noch jemand.

La photo iconique de Lee Miller dans la baignoire d’Hitler, c’est dans l’appartement d’Hitler à Munich. On est le 30 avril 1945. Le matin même Lee Miller et David Scherman étaient à Dachau et ont photographié la libération du camp, l’horreur des corps entassés (le reportage de Lee Miller est paru dans Vogue). Ainsi, les bottes, la crasse dont se laver, ce sont celles de Dachau. Elle ne pouvait savoir que ce même jour est aussi celui du suicide d’Hitler.
