¿Sabían que el primer superhéroe que usó un traje ajustado y máscara no fue Superman, sino un personaje llamado El Fantasma?

Dos años antes de que el Hombre de Acero levantara un auto en su primera portada de mil novecientos treinta y ocho, Lee Falk creó a The Phantom (El Fantasma) en mil novecientos treinta y seis. Este personaje introdujo elementos que hoy son básicos en cualquier cómic, como el uso de mallas ceñidas al cuerpo y una máscara que ocultaba sus pupilas, dándole esa mirada blanca y misteriosa que luego heredarían héroes como Batman o Linterna Verde.

A diferencia de los seres con poderes sobrehumanos, El Fantasma basaba su fuerza en el entrenamiento físico y en un mito de inmortalidad que pasaba de padres a hijos, haciendo creer a sus enemigos que era el mismo hombre que llevaba siglos combatiendo el mal. Además, fue el primero en tener un escondite secreto, la Cueva de la Calavera, estableciendo la idea del refugio privado para los vigilantes mucho antes de que existiera la Batiseñal. Aunque Superman popularizó el género de los superpoderes, fue este enmascarado quien definió cómo debía verse y comportarse un héroe disfrazado en el papel.
