On a principalement besoin de channels vocaux et textuels et du partage d'écran comme features, c'est le minimum pour notre utilisation

I really like Chris Boden. I think his teaching and his outlook on life is generally positive and it really seems like he wants to make the world a better place.
BUT....
His latest video on the discord privacy issue, really misses the mark.
It feels like his stance is that privacy is already gone and we never had it and almost feels like he thinks it is our fault.
"Look in your hand"... a mention of your cell phone is the same excuse that Flock Safety CEO says he can track you. because you made a decision to use a smart phone, you don't deserve privacy from any one or any corporation.
I feel like this is privacy Nihilism at best and it doesn't help build the better future I know Chris wants.
be better, because I do want to see something cool.

@Datenproletarier Are you able and willing to run your own server? Or is your community willing to pay for managed hosting? If so, a @snikket_im server could be worth kicking the tires on. It can do voice/video and group rooms, and although I haven't tested group voice chat, 1:1 voice/video was excellent.
Full disclosure: Years ago I got paid to write copy for the Snikket.org site. But I recommend #Snikket only because it's 100% Free Code, decentralised (XMPP), and cool.

Discord isnt just a one-off "slip-up" or "stress testing" user base for maximum data extraction. It makes so much sense now,
Discord IPO rumor -> Data extraction for AI -> Palantir (CEO is a founder)
I dont even know wtf is going on but this age verification is one part of a very big implication to maximize CONTROL and PROFIT.

Re: #Telegram vs. #Discord: neither is perfect, but I need another chat app less than I need a way to reliably receive alerts when my shit breaks. So, until and unless Telegram starts requiring me to upload a #face #scan just to exist on their platform, or using #AI to track my behavior, I’ll deal with it.

I spent all day working on a #Telegram #bot project that will replace much of the functionality that I currently use #Discord for (with their planned #privacy nightmare upcoming I will no longer be using their services). This mainly consists of alerts and notifications from my various #selfhosted services. Today I was able to implement some basic commands and status checks that are useful for a #homelab, including webhook functionality for apps without native Telegram integration, as well as some limited #Docker functionality.
Planned features include #Proxmox and #Portainer/further Docker integration.
Getting to dust off my #Python hat was kinda fun, and I decided to seriously try out #Claude #Code, which proved remarkably up to the task. I was pretty impressed by how easily and seamlessly it handled what I threw at it.
All in all, very productive day.

CW: In reference to the recent global chat musings.
Having been on #Matrix for a long time, right now We're seeing a lot of creatures interested in self-hosing their own homeserves, We have a word of caution.
#Synapse is a demanding piece of software, not only being unusually heavy for a self-hosted chat software in its hardware demands, but it keeps needing to be actively maintained, this year already the homeserver We help out with experienced two new and exciting failure modes that needed to be addressed immediately.
With the main problem being not necessarily that the problems are very hard to deal with (though sometimes they are), but that it demands you to be ready to jump into action on a moment's notice, or else all your users can't actually use your instance and the longer it goes on the more you risk rooms getting permanently desynchronized.
We would advise to just offer help to an already existing homeserver instead, be that financial or maintenance wise, or band together with at least three other creatures who want to do sysadmin stuff for that, if you insist on self-hosting.

We're working on migrating our discord "server” to Matrix. We'd been talking about it for a while anyway. Has anyone run into any tools or scripts that export your data before you delete it? I found one for slack to matrix that I might be able to modify. But I figured i'd ask here first. #LeaveDiscord #FuckDiscord
