Dorothea Dix Park Weekly Events Guide: July 28–August 3rd Edition
Dorothea Dix Park offers another week of free and family-friendly activities in Raleigh, including outdoor Pilates, children’s bicycle instruction, library story time, poetry and yoga.
Events will take place at Flowers Field, Gipson Play Plaza, the House of Many Porches Market and Harvey Hill. Here is the Dorothea Dix Park weekly events guide for July 28 through August 3, 2026.
Tuesday, July 28
Pilates in the Park
Stretch, strengthen and enjoy an outdoor workout during Pilates in the Park. The 45-minute session at Flowers Field provides an opportunity to exercise in one of Raleigh’s largest public parks.
- Time: 6–6:45 p.m.
- Location: Flowers Field
- Activity: Outdoor Pilates
Participants should consider bringing a mat, water and comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.
Wednesday, July 29
Learn to Ride a Bike
Children and families can develop bicycle-riding skills during this morning program at Gipson Play Plaza.
- Time: 8:30–10:30 a.m.
- Location: Gipson Play Plaza
- Audience: Children and families
The program offers a supportive environment for young riders who are beginning to balance, pedal and build confidence on a bicycle.
Families should review the organizer’s instructions regarding registration, bicycles, helmets and other required equipment before attending.

Public Library Pop-Up
The Public Library Pop-Up brings family-focused books and story time to the House of Many Porches Market.
- Time: 10 a.m.–noon
- Location: House of Many Porches Market
- Audience: Families and children
Families can browse books, participate in story time and enjoy a relaxed morning in the park. This event is an easy addition to a visit to Gipson Play Plaza and the surrounding areas of Dix Park.

Poetry in the Park
Poetry in the Park invites writers, readers and listeners to gather for a family-friendly evening of creative expression.
- Time: 6–8 p.m.
- Location: House of Many Porches Market
- Audience: All ages; listeners welcome
Guests do not need to perform to participate. Community members can attend simply to listen and enjoy poetry in an informal outdoor setting.
Monday, August 3
Yoga in the Park
Begin the week with an outdoor yoga session at Harvey Hill. Participants can move, stretch and unwind while enjoying the open landscape of Dorothea Dix Park.
- Time: 6–7 p.m.
- Location: Harvey Hill
- Activity: Outdoor yoga
Bring a yoga mat, water and any other items needed for a comfortable practice.
